If you saw this thread, you know I totally F'd my TAPP clutch as a result of my own stupidity. I have a feeling it was a combination of (1) failing to ensure proper offset; (2) wrong secondary helix and spring, resulting in scalding hot clutch temps; and (3) adding a light film of oil to the stub shaft before re-installing the primary clutch after I blew the first belt (as many have said, DO NOT lubricate the stub shaft!). So, mangling the TAPP clutch was clearly my fault.

I sent my TAPP clutch back to Dave at Powder Lites. Dave got it on 2/27, texted me, refurbished it, and mailed it back out to me all on the same day. And the price he charged was very fair and a lot lower than I was anticipating. Additionally, Dave has taken my calls several times on proper weight/ramp/clicker setups, and he's always been accommodating and never rushed. When you buy a TAPP clutch from Dave, not only are you getting a far superior clutch for the Winder, but you're also getting top-notch service if and when you need it. Money well spent in my book!

That's great to hear. I'm sure the whole incident has been disheartening, but for Powderlites to come thru as he did, is awesome customer service.
So don't F it up again...lol

Was your TAPP scalding hot too before you messed it up?

What helix and spring are you gonna run now on your secondary?

Thats awesome! Nice feeling to have knowing you spent a good amount of coin and the manufacturer has your back.

No it was warm but I could hold my hand on it after long/hard runs while the Pro 4 was too hot to touch. I’m guessing, like Mr. Knapp said, I had too much pinch in the secondary heating things up too much. I had the identical setup as STAIN, and he seemed to report similar findings.

I have a box of parts coming from Dalton for some testing and tuning. For the stock secondary, I have every spring available coming along with a straight 35, straight 38, and a 41/35 (plus the stock 39/35). For the Pro 4, I have every spring coming along with a 46/36 (plus the 43/34 I already have). Also have a Razorback belt temp gauge coming to keep an eye on real time belt temps. Come hell or high water, I’m going to dial this thing in.

I run the 43/34 and Black/purple
in my pro 4 secondary.
It’ll be very interesting to see what your testing shows...please keep us posted. I have one more trip coming up this Thursday, then my season will be over for this year. Probably Gonna keep things the way I have them currently for this trip.

Same here re the black/purple and 43/34. I’m hoping the MI UP will keep some snow if not I’m done too.
