I bought a used tekvest of craigslist it is a l/xl and I have it cinched all the way and its not completely tight around the stomach but pretty close. How are these supposed to fit? Is there any danger with wearing these a little loose?

they are generaly worn pretty snug but they will still work if a little loose just may be less comfortable.
