Just recently purchased an extra large Tekvest and it was too big even with the straps fully adjusted. Should I drop to a large or will a medium fit?

Just out of curiosity......I am looking to buy one too and curious about sizing. How tall and how much do you weigh? Build? I am 5'9 and weigh 210lbs and usually wear an XL Jacket...but I was figuring to get a Large TekVest to wear under just my jacket. Think Large will be good or should I go Medium? Thanks

Another type of protective vest

Here's another option for a protective vest, a horse-rider's safety vest:

There are a few variations of them, and they have some good safety ratings.

I currently have a Tek Vest, but am looking at these other vests as they are less bulky, but offer front & back protection. Nothing against the Tek Vest as I do have one, but this might be an option for some, and the prices aren't too bad either.

On a motorcycle site, some guys have used them(and put them to the test), and have given favorable reviews.

I believe Tek Vests run big. My Medium Supersport fits me very well...if not a bit loose, when adjusted as small as it will go. I'm normally a 42 chest. Looks like it would have enough adjustment to go all the way out to maybe a 50 to me...

I wear mine under my coat. Where/how you wear it makes a big difference.

I just bought a medium at the novi show. I tried on the Large, but I had to pull the straps in all the way. I would noramally wear a Large. The guy I bought it from said they run BIG.

How it would work in a crash?

That looks like a very interesting product. I would how well it would work in a snowmobile accident?

I would feel confident wearing one, as they actually meet safety standards which are as good or better than some motorcycle safety gear.

I can't find any safety ratings for the Tek Vest.

There is a website (currently down) called adventure-touring.net that has a good thread going on these specific types of protective vests.

What I like about them, other than the safety factor, is that they can be used for more than one sport. Can't say that I would want to wear a Tek Vest in the summer.
