Would an MX style chest protector (like the Fox Airframe) provide adequate protection for sledding? I've tried a tekvest but found it too bulky and uncomfortable. Looking for something lighter but with decent protection.

Tek vest will give you the best protection. Which model did you try?

I personalty wear tek vests. You could also look at beeware some peopl say they are more confortable

The protector pictured is a roost protector. They are good for just that, protecting form roost (flying dirt and rocks) not necessarily designed to absorb impact.

Go with a Tek Vest or similar if you want superior protection

If you dont have cash for the Tek Vest, cuz they are pricey, wear the roost protector. Better than nothing

vest

i use a klim not sure of the protection level but it feels good to wear,
i don't think any would help if you hit something going 80-100mph.
i wear mine for slower mishaps. it makes my wife feel better because i ride alone 80% of the time.

A roost protector is just what it says it is, it'll provide very little impact protection if your going into a sled's handle bars or as in the famous video having another sled with studs running over your back. One of our kids just dropped a roost protector and it broke, it was a name brand offering.
As a side note, the Klim vest is Tekvest rebranded.

I had the freestyle tekvest ... maybe another model would fit better. I've seen the Bwear vests. They look very similar to the tekvests. Thanks for the input guys.

Try sixsixone core protector. I found tekvest uncomfortable as well but I'm very comfortable in core protector. sixsixone core protector priced from $75 to $135 so look around online for best price. Wear protection if you need to be somewhere on Mondays.

Ended up buying a bwear vest for a good deal ... we'll see how it works out.
