Hello, I just like you others have pre ordered a phazer fx. Mine is due anyday now. I was wondering if anybody has thought about adding a tether switch to theres. I was wondering if any of you have done it to any of the yamaha 4 strokes yet. Also I will be adding a remote start unit to it so on cold mornings it can warm up without me going outside to do it. I got the unit from ebay. I also was told the phazers didn't have tunnel protectors from factory, there optional on there site specs. Do any of you think they should be put in? Thanks Jim

When you order your tether make sure it is for a 4stroke, I have the tether but have not installed it yet. I ordered it just in case I would get trouble with the TORS going turbo. Remote start? Nice. A friend of mine bought one for his Attak, he could not get it to work and he is an aircraft technician. His kit was from Bender. If you are going with any sort of tracktion product like studs you have to install tunnell protectors.

I agree with your logic on the tunnel protectors, as for the tether I looked at bender and couldn't find it. have a part number? Im a diesel tech and work with a lot of weird crap. I will be trying to make a custom fuel map when I get the sled. I make custom fuel maps for automotive and my Fircat. hope it works out

I'm not sure on the Phazer, but the RX-1, Apex, Vector uses a Arctic Cat tether. Ill have to get the part # from my brother.

Yeah, I was thinking about an arctic cat tether. I think all i have to do is wire the switch in with my kill button on the handlebars. Just need to know open or closed circuit. I can figure that out when I get the sled. Also depends on what type of ignition it is 12v battery source or magneto. if magneto it's ok to do it the way i was thinking. if 12v source you need to wire the tether in series with the 12v positive wire coming from the battery to the coil pack. I know this from quads.

Checkman39 - I bought the tether from maxximum performance, they had 2 different types, one for any Yamaha 2stroke and one for the 4strokes, unfortunately they went out of business last season.

Hey Guys - regarding tunnel protectors:
Keep in mind that the section of the tunnel that you are typically protecting is a great big open hole on the new Phazer

Tether is not necessary on Yamaha. If the cable gets stuck, the engine will shut down. Called TORS.

on the other hand, if you bail on the sled and it keeps running while on its lid.....POOFFFF! new motor. Of course, no one on this site has ever dumped a sled, now have they???

Engine won't keep running upside down. The carbs don't work that way. 4-strokes are usually really hard to start after they've been upside down.

I've never had mine upside down, but a buddy of mine had an 03 RX-1...He missed a corner and got pinned under the sled with it on its side. His hand was stuck between some small trees and the trotle got stuck near wide open. By the time he got free and shut is down, the damage was done. He only made it another few miles before she siezed....
Kind of a freak thing, but a tether "MAY" have saved the motor, who knows?

You forget LB not everyone runs sleds with carbs....the new ones have "efi ", and they will run on there lid, enough to hurt them... I don't know, but a tether is a great idea if your going to be going wild on the jumps etc.

You need a Arctic Cat normally closed tether chord. You can get one online at http://www.hiperf.com reference # 176-118 or at Rich Motorsports http://richmotorsports.com/store/view_product.php?product=TET4OD9H187.

thanks srxspec that's what i was thinking. I have a couple of them in my shop i was a big arctic cat guy, i have a lot of tools, parts, books in my shop. as for the engine seizure if it goes on it's side, it won't happen because the motor has full pressure oil pressure system. the rx-1 seized probably because when it was on it's side, the pickup tube for the oil wasn't submerged under oil like it would be if the sled was sitting normally... as for the tether I personally feel it's needed for the way I ride, i ride like its stolen---------I forgot about the tunnel area being open, maybe I wont need tunnel proctectors unless i decide to tig weld a peice of aluminum in there.

I was just reading that the new Phazer has a sensor that will shut the motor down if oil pressure drops, so that won't happen on them...Not sure about the Apex/Attacks
