OMG!!!! What a great time!!!
First of all I want to thank Stingray for informing us of Grand Mesa Lodge as the cabin we stayed in was perfect! Nice hot long shower! All the kitchen comforts like home, super clean cabins and hospitality was outstanding!!!!! Thanks to Mike and Rose! You both ROCK!!!!
To all, my thoughts of cabins are very close, tight areas where you freeze to death and you can't even drink the water. I was shocked to taste the best water in the world right from the tap! Beds were extremely comfortable, fresh washed sheets and the heater was set at 68°
New appliances and everything like I have at home to make any meal
Non-ethanol premium fuel, convenience store and any help we needed...Mike and Rose were there for us
Trip started out with a very long drive through traffic in Madison, snow and ice in Iowa, extremely high winds in Nebraska to what felt like the Indy 500 through the canyons of Colorado.....the trip of driving 26+ hours straight took a toll on me and when I saw 0 snow a few miles from the Grand Mesa Lodge, it was a relief when we pulled into the lodge parking area and saw lots of snow
The first ride was to another lodge where we ate the most amazing polish food! I had the goulash....OMG! a meal for a king!!!! Lots of snow and places to try the 153" 2.25 Power Claw track I put on
Got back to the cabins and Stingray thought Shagman and myself were nuts doing clutching at midnight
The next day was warm and we were riding around in our t-shirts trying to get a clutch setup to handle the 10,000 ft. altitude. What was the weirdest thing was the Viper computer needed a full day to compensate for the altitude change. After many springs, weight changes I borrowed the setup and weights from Stingray and it woke up the sled (Just to let everyone know I still have his weights in my sled....Hehe
but I will be sending them back to him this week, Thanks Bill
After trying many areas of off-trail, we ended up riding roads to get to places so we could take pictures of Lands End and other mountain areas
Got back to the cabin and cooked steaks on the grill (Thanks Shagman!), spent time with Bill's family and prepared ourselves for a long day of off-trail
Thanks goes out to Dianne for the awesome desert
Friday was more off trail, incredible pictures and a test of snow covered road to see how the sled would perform with the skis I got from YamahaTim and with the 153" 2.25 Power Claw track. Lets just say everyone was amazed
Plenty of snow, great people and the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my life! Had a ball carving, jumping and fast road riding! Only problems we encountered was my son Andrew found a huge rock while carving and was thrown from the sled resulting in a very badly sprained/bruised wrist. X-rays showed no other problems so that I am glad for. He was a trooper and still rode the sled after the mishap
Again, we went down with Bill's family to the other lodge and ate like kings again
Trip back was good, only a little fog once we got to Iowa City

I have to apologize for the snow conditions. The day before we arrived they had 29 inches of new snow, then it did something I had never seen here.....it went to September weather in November. First day was 41 degrees second day was 51 degrees where it is usually around 20 degrees.. All the truly cool places were full of rocks so we did a lot more road riding than I liked, but I am really glad the guys had fun.
I tried to follow and even though I had narrow front and big track I still could not have kept up with the same equipmaent, those guys are FAST! The forest service roads we were on have a summer speed limit of 15mph and I was doing 70 to 75mph and they were leaving me behind. I saw a candy wrapper on the road and wondered if they stopped for a snack and I still didn't catch up! LOL! Was a blast though, I found out you CAN run a Camoplast X3 over 60mph and have it hold together. (I don't advise running an X3 at 75mph like I did though).
Props to Andrew for jamming his wrist so bad you could see the swelling and getting on and riding all day, tough kid.
Thanks again guys!
