The fastest stock snowmobile

Yes, but a stock sled is what you get out of the crate, which I don't believe was 172hp, especially when my clutched 135hp would beat my buddies 98 T-cat. Maybe on a long lake run it would have passed me, but up until 110mph I was ahead.

One of the last shoot outs had a Yamaha Apex RTX winning stock right out of the box.

Just don't let Big Moose Yamaha work on it, They'll only make it go slower.

172hp is what arctic-cat claim wen they release the thundercat in 1998.I don't now why you don't believe that 1000 triple with triple pipe and 3 38mm carb wont do-it when you have big twin that can do 165hp.

the fastest stock sled i have ever seen was last year at about this time when the lakes are ready for radar runs,a well clutched 2002 srx, completly stock motor, stock pipes&muffler and a gear change, not sure wich gear they had but it wasnt a big difference,it ran consistantly 129mph and 2 runs hit 130,quite impressive

I own a XCR 800 and previous to that I owned a Mach Z. Both are very fast snowmobiles. I have beaten many fast snowmobiles. T-cats, Srxs, ZRT 800's, Mach Z's etc. But out of all the sleds I have beaten, I can think of other ones that have beat me. Basically I have beat and been beaten by pretty much every sled out there. I think it all comes down to fine tuning the clutch and rider weight. All I know is I hope I am as happy with the power of my new Apex as I was with the Mach and the XCR. Can't wait to ride it......

my bravo is the fastest stock of all snow machines out there.my top speed is 230 mph ! ! ! jk lol

Alot of you guys dont seem to know what (stock) means, Stock just means no after market parts, but you can massage the parts you already have as much as need be.

I owned a 2001 Mach z 800 and my brother had a 2000 XCR 800 both 100% stock, beside picks and close to same weight drivers, the mach beat it consistently. SRX's where close but couldn't hang on the top end. NO Replacement For Displacement. There where a few t-cats that got me but who knows if they where stock. I always feared the t-cats and seen some run very well. But stock is always how good you can B-S the guy. That is why I have a turbo now, Don't have to worry about stock sleds. IMHO Ski doo Mach Z 800 in its day and the 1000 now is the fastest STOCK sled out there. T- Cats where hit and miss. some had balls and lots didn't do it.
Just my 2 cents

Fastest legal stock sled built to date to run sanctioned speed runs is a 1000 Arctic Cat Thundercat. Hands down faster than any other brand or model to date. Yes, they were better in the old original ZRT chassis due to the round slide carbs and freer breathing airbox. Models that came after had poor flatslides and a restrictive airbox.
