The making of an IronDog sled...

Good luck guys and keep this thread alive!

Question : Why on the first picture you blacked out the side of the sled ?

I was on the team site and it is their sponsor under the blackout.

First off thanks for the words of encouragements for this race.

Would really be curious to see and read how the crew will extend the fuel capacity on the Nytro.Thanx in advance

Even tho we have quite a few legs of this race over 100 miles between check points. I think our fuel concerns will be address with the larger fuel tank from Seth @ www.creationcomposites.com .

is this similar to cains quest?

If I remember right Cains Quests is right @ 2000K (1250 miles) and the IronDog is 3160k (1976 miles) The rules of the races are very simular. This year will be the 25th Irondog and 3rd Cains Quest. Other than distance I would guess they could be comparable to each other. But having never attempted Cains Quest I'm not for sure. Both are endurance races where you have to insure you sleds are able to make it to the finish line!

Cool thread! Are you going to run that larger aftermarket tank that was advertised on this site? I'd be curious to see it mounted on the sled.

Any more working updates that can be said about the sleds? Progress pictures?

Well we got 6" of snow today and I guess the real question is do we ride or wrench???

Progress:

Thought this was a funny pic

Many hours of wenching an fabricating went into our sleds. (I credit nytro23 for most of this) Some times we had to take one step back to make two steps forwards, but that is the case when one tries this type of race with a new model sled.

We went for our last ride on the race sleds yesterday. We will be hitting the starting line with somewhere between 420-425 miles on the ol girls.
Suspension is set pretty much where we want it and will add compression dampening and reduce rebound dampening IF springs start to fade.
We ended up not running a Ti spring on the front track shock but all other springs are Ti and the shocks are custom valved Ohlins by one of the best tuners in the bussiness. He is local and has ran this race 4 times. So he knows what the shock will be put through. We made final adjustments to the headlights, track, chain, and bags. Gathered our tools, gear, and supplies list.
We got to play with a couple other teams while out on the river and I'm very please say none of the teams we saw were able to just walk away from us. (not knowing if they were going 100% as no one likes to wad up days before the big race, but our Yamahas did well and even got a few comments)
Temps are very cold in parts of Alaska right now! Tok, Alaska (not part of the course) was recorded @ -70F! While 4 or 5 check points have been colder than -45F the last few days!! (what were we thinking!!) It's hard to gear up correctly for tight trees and bumps AND river running in temps like these!! Your either chilled or sweating! And getting sweaty and then chilled is a BAD thing!
