If there is interest we will keep this thread going to show some ideas of what we are doing to try and set up our 2008 FX Nytro RTX to be competitive in the 2008 IronDog snowmachine race. (link in sig below)

We would like to hear some ideas from you guys IF you have issues with any part of you sleds so we can check those areas on our sleds too. We plan to have a min of 2000 miles on each of our practice sleds and 500 miles on our race sleds also before the start of the race.

We (nytro23) and I invite you guys along as we build this sleds up and torture them trying to see what will work and may not work for our conditions! I must say reliability is first and for most on ANY part we add or change! Also since this is a race and our competition (both on Yamahas AND other brands) could see this there may be some comments or items we may ignore as it may be into our best interest not to reveal why we made this change...

At this time there are 5 teams on Yamahas in the 2008 IronDog and we will be working with each of those to some degree. Our goal is to get these Yamahas (all five teams) across the finish line after 1976 miles of racing!

Thanks, Jeff

Yes, by all means keep this thread going. Nytro buyers everywhere would benefit from this.

Yamaha fans want to see how this new sled competes with the rest, so anything you guys do is priceless information.

Looking forward to seeing the Nytro's here in Nome at the halfway point. Name is Nate, I've been volunteering for Irondog here forever.

Good luck!

ditchbanger- Yea ME too! Come January there will NOT be enough time to both, test ride & wrench! I’m sure well have lots of hours wrenching on these buggys! After tearing into these new FX Nytros both Mark and I feel these sleds are the best Irondog sleds we have EVER started with. The quality of this Yamaha product is something I’m not used to coming from Doo and Polaris…. That is in NO WAY meant to be a slam against either of those brands!!

Irondoghalf- Then you possibly saw 'nytro23' last year or the year before (both years team #23) in Nome. Last year I believe they arrived in Nome like in 7th place after experiencing rear suspension problems in White Mt. going north. Those problems could NOT completely be resolved in Nome and they ended up scratching in White Mt. south bound. I'm sure Mark will chime in when he see this thread but he has talked about it in the other "Nytro" section. As every one knows these rear skids are completely different! PLEASE introduce yourself when we get there in Nome! We’d be glad to meet you. Hopefully there will be another ½ way banquet while we are there. I understand that was a lot of fun. Also when the time come fill free to take picture of sleds (all the sleds) and share with these guys

For the most part there is a lot of work to be done when preparing race sleds for the Irondog! The sleds should be completely disassembled and inspected. This is done for at least 2 reasons. First, Mechanical failure is the single largest reason teams do not successfully finish the ~2000 mile race. We are looking at the smallest detail that might have been overlooked or possibly even missed altogether during the assembly of each of our sleds. We are looking for quality the welds, exact tolerances, proper set up, and knowing that these sleds were reassembled by people that understand what these sleds will endure during the 1 week of abuse while in the race. The second reason is to become familiar will ALL aspects of our sleds. One should to know how things work and look in a nice warm shop/garage so they can be easier identified IF there becomes a problem during the race when it’s packed with snow, dirt, ice or even bent and/or broken. For those that do not know; all fueling and maintenance is done on the clock! During the race all mechanical work that will need to be done is to be done by the racers. (there are a few exceptions, like welding and things) What we can identify, fix or address here could mean the difference between finishing or NOT! The Irondog is an endurance race where best prepped sleds AND riders usually finish and finish towards the top! At this point the Blue FX Nytros are going to be our practice sleds and the white and yellow will be out Race sleds. All 4 are 2008 FX Nytro RTX.
