The Shocking Truth About Stock Nytro's In the Steep And Deep

Sounds like you haven't ridden the 2010 SE, or one not properly setup. IMO it is every bit as good as a Rev. Properly set up, they are night and day different from the 08-09 models. Plus I feel the new suspension is better than a Timbersled.[/quote]

You're right I haven't ridden the 2010 SE. I will only buy Yamaha, but with that said I know they will not out climb the other 800 mtn sleds. The 2010 SE has a much better rear skid from the 08-09 but the sled is still to heavy and under powered. (mtdream) Well said. If you have money to put into a sled then buy a Yamaha. If you don't have money to put into a sled and are looking for one that will climb in just about any condition I wouldn't buy a Yamaha. I have two nytro's one with boost and one w/o. The one w/o boost is not fun to ride on days with heavy snow, my boosted one is a different story. It's fun all the time.

I keep hearing this statement all the time and it is starting to make me mad. Duh the 600 class snow machine will not climb as high as the 800 class. You are comparing a 600 to a 800 which do you think will climb higher. All you douches that are buying a nytro and then mad that it doesn't climb as high as an 800 go get an 800 and shut up and let us that LOVE our nytros enjoy them. Also one thing that many people forget is the driver. Why don't you keyboard jockeys get out and practice riding and quit bashing the little 600. You would be surprised how much better the nytro would perform if you could ride!!! Oh and to all you nay sayers I invite you to come ride with me and we will see if your 800 can keep up. :yam:

It's a 4 stroke. That's all.
The only real mountain 4 stroke.

You can't compare wine and beer.
Both are very good but totally different.

With a 4 stroke you can do lots of things that you can't do with a 2 stroke ... and vice-versa.

So love your 2 stroke as others love their 4 stroke.

.... and if we'll meet on a mountain i'll wait you for a beer (or wine glass) on top of the mountain ;):D (joking of course)

ex RMK owner happy to be a Yammie

Well my Dad can beat up your Dad. I think you forget your pills this morning. You talk tough, but tell the truth you couldn't outride my grandma.

we need a "this thread has totally derailed" emoticon...

summary: guy is not happy with what he bought...happens with everything from toilet paper to tamborines to turbos...

If you put so much money into a machine why do you not read up on the machine, test it for a couple of days and so on. Bad benchmarking I think.

I'm a Cat guy and when we talking Mountain the only thing who could keep up with a M is a RMK in they way and on the mountains where I ride. I dont compare an M8 or an RMK 800 with the Nytro, I compare it with the M6 and the RMK 600.

And of course Chris Burandt could take a Nytro further in to the threes than me on my Cat. But that is not the issue. Witch machine can I take the furthest into back country? Not a Nytro that I know by experience.

Nytro has its qualitys and if you want a 4-stroke mountain with ride forward tech. Nytro is you're choice. Highest mark with no threes? Apex MTX Turbo of course...

In my opinion the Nytro MTX and Summit have somewhat the same feeling. The M is something else and the RMK is more or less the king of the hill when there are threes and steep hills... of course lots of snow to.

But as I implied from the beginning I would take a Cat every time but only because it fits me...

Lets keep the mud slinging to minimum boys....

X2

If only there was more snow.........

Hehe, here there is lots of snow... and we have had a very nice winter with lots of powder. Now something else has happend... Wet snow on top and cold snow under. Hangs the machine in the front and no traction in the back.

The only thing that works in that condition is wide-tracks. VK540 is the choice of the day. Boring machine but it works...

pwa and nytro7c,
Please take the time to update your location in your profile (link in the menu at the top).

Thanks!

Not trying to sling mud, just makes me mad when people are ignorant. You can't compare a 600 and a 800 and then bash the 600 for not keeping up with it. And that is all I have to say about this so the rest of you bash away!!
P.S. croc79 I know your grandma is a good rider, she showed me last night.

It's a fact! If you plan on riding in the steep and the deep - you have to boost your Nytro using a turbo charger or a super charger.

There I said it, and I feel fine!

I'm 210 lbs geared up and ride in the British Columbia interior mountains averaging 6000 to 11000 feet elevation in mostly deep powder.

These are not stock "Mountain Sleds" even though Yamaha markets them as such. I have complained to Yamaha about the things I've had to change just to make it bearable and they could care less!

I got sucked in by the Yamaha quality schtick and quickly determined that many Nytro owners have had to spend lots of money to make these sleds run as they should. Is that Yamaha quality? New tracks, bent sub frames, oil leakage, small gas tanks, quick burning sliders, trenching track angle, goofy steering geometry and the list goes on.

If you cannot or will not boost your sled to ride in steep and deep conditions your stock Nytro is going to disappoint you greatly!

I should know, I've tried everything else and it cannot compete in those types of conditions without more power period.

My 2009 M8 (bought used after the Nytro) was a lot less money, far more fun and capable in the same conditions. I do so many more things now with far less effort.

An expensive and impetuous lesson for me, but it doesn't have to be for you.... ;)!

Nothing you have said is any great revelation. You should have done your homework, especially since you bought an 09. Every thing you are whining about was common knowledge back then. Still a great sled to mod. Pretty well necessary since the first 4 stroke Yammy in 03. I ride an M sled as well but definitely prefer the Nytro.

I cannot see how anyone could prefer a Nytro compared to a M but that is not the issue here. I agree with you about what this come down to is lack of homework and benchmarking before buying a sled.

There is nothing as a perfect sled so what we as sledders has to do is to see what kind of element we are driving in and buy the best possible sled for that condition and of course a sled you like and can rely on.

It could be a Apex MTX, Nytro MTX, RMK, M or a Summit in this case... Buy what you want but read up on the benefits and the problems on the sleds you have as prospects, because they all have benefits and surly they all have their own problems.

Yup, you're right.
