thinking of buying a 2014 Viper

Go with reliability...go with an Apex.

My viper has been every bit as reliable as every yamaha I've ever owned. U will save money with the apex obviously..but there's a reason it's so cheap..your resale value is gonna be rock bottom on the apex, the viper will hold it's value longer. That's another thing to consider. U will be happy with either sled. The viper will out handle the apex hands down and you still have just as good of performance in a lighter and more versatile chassis.

2015 sleds have been released so the apex is already a 4 year old sled..the viper is only 1 year old. Sure both of them are brand new..but when you go to sell the apex it's still 3 years older than the viper

if you want to be able to sell it some day,you better buy the apex.

I have a like new RX1 I would LOVE to get 2k for. 3 Years ago I had to almost give my Apex away, I want to believe you I really do..................

ah thank you guys for the responses. Seems pretty split down the middle. Leaning toward the viper, but not by much. The apex is such a solid sled with a great reputation but the viper is an updated design that offers more in areas that the apex doesn't. Will post pics of the final decision when she comes home!

viper vs apex

Apex is great price but they have its own issues like exhaust donuts and rear swing arm cracking and shock revalving to get it the way you want so you can take the cost difference and get the shocks revalved and swing arm beefed up and still have cash in your pocket...Viper you will need to have rear shocks revalved for additional $300 and your good to go...I own both and have upgraded both of them to the best trail ride that they are capable of...

For whatever reason pre-EPS Apex's have terrible resale in my area. EPS Apex's are going for big $$$.

I saw a Viper LTX SE for sale last week with 1,400 miles for $9,100. To me that is a good price if you are a buyer but not a seller.

Around here Skidoo Etec's sell for big money. Hard to believe. Buying a used one is like buying a grenade with the pin 3/4 pulled out.

If I were the original poster I would ask to try both out.

The 2011 and newer Apex's have almost 0 issues. My father and his crew all run the new ones now. One is at 9,200 miles on original exhaust donuts. My father have 5,500 miles and it has been a gas and go sled.

I don't hardly see any eps apex for sale in my area. Maybe 1 all year. Decent amount of first gen apexs are hittin the market now..I sold my 06 apex last year with 4500 miles on it. It was mint condition with a studded track but otherwise totally stock when I sold it and I got $4000 cash. Sold it last year on March 19th right after our season ended..the guy never even drove it. Started it up to hear it run then shut it off and put it away for the winter. That is good resale in my opinion for that sled with the miles. I've seen a 2011 apex xtx for sale with 1600 miles for $7000 which sounds reasonable to me but it's been for sale for nearly a month now. Anyone looking to get an apex and hoping for great resale value..well that is wishful thinking now that the viper is out and doing well. The apex is just becoming another sled of the past..the viper will be the same way in 4-5 years which is sad to think but that's just how it goes. I kinda feel like if u buy an apex and give up owning a viper that you are already starting on a sled that is on it's way out..sure it'll still be a nice sled but resale value isn't going to be there by no means.

I have a 2012 Apex. No gear case, hot start, exhaust, oil breather, leaking fluid or other mechanical issues. A few suspension mods later and there isnt a sled out there I'd rather be riding...catch me if you can. As good as that Viper rides and I've been on at least 8 demo days rides on the rtx, ltx, xtx, I wouldn't get near that thing for another 2-3 years until they iron out the problems. For any of the "zero issue" 1st year Viper owners, I'd either ride a little harder and see how it goes or find a good solid piece of wood and knock on it real hard.
