hey guys I'm thinking of switching to yamaha from skidoo,
I currently ride a 2003 mxz 700 and I'm liking the reliability of the yamaha's

so Im just wondering if theres anything I should be looking for in terms of buying??
I'm looking at a 2003 or 2004 RX1
I mostly ditch bang and I like to take some jumps here and there and ride the ruff stuff, are these sleds good runers for this type of rideing??
are there any common problems with these??
and just one more question, can anyone tell me how much these sleds weigh??

I don't think you would be happy switching from a REV to sleds in the Delta I chassis (RX-1 or Vector/Rage in 2005-2007). Yamaha switched to a more rider forward chassis with the introduction of the Delta II chassis in 2006 with the Apex and Attak. The Vector models (120 hp 3 cylinder 4-stroke) received the Detla II chassis starting with the 2008 models.

For ditch banging, Yamaha introduced the FX Nytro (not to be confused with the Nytro 3-cylinder prior to 2008) last season and this is the model better suited for ditch banging. The other option for ditch banging is the Phazer, but coming from a 700 this might not be enough power for you.

In terms of weight, don't let the marketing guys get to you on this. In general terms, a 4-stroke is more nose heavy than a 2-stroke. You don't feel it so much on the trails, but will notice the weight difference on jumps and when trying to move the front end when stuck.

Hope that helps.

It would be helpful to other site members if you filled in your location in your user profile.

ok thanks for the help. What about the 06 or 07 apex are they a better sled than the RX1?? There is a 2006 apex GT for sale here for $7900.00 OBO. Is there anything I should be looking for?? Is this a good price for this sled?? What are the differences between the apex and the apex GT?/

I found this thread about another guy from Toronto that owned a Rev and wanted to buy an Apex/Attak. Suggest you read this thread.

You can also click here for a video put together comparing the 2006 Attak against the Rev. The video was done by a Rev owner, who converted to Yamaha after the video. He is on this site as the member YellowKnife and his threads about his Phazer and FX Nytro are legendary.

Regarding your first question, the Apex sleds have more modern features. Your riding style will determine if these features make them better than a RX-1. The Apex models were Yamaha's first attempt at rider forward design. The also have electronic fuel injection (EFI), which added more horse power and eliminated a choke. The GT has Ohlin shocks all around. I have ridden a GT and the difference to me was that the shocks were silky smooth compared to standard shocks. I liked it very much.

By far the biggest issue with the Apex models is hand-warmers that don't really work. For more information about these models, click on the FAQ link in my signature.

Right, so a more traditional seating position similar to what is found on the RX-1. If you like to stand up and ride, the rider forward models are better suited for this. If you like to ride with butt on the back of the seat with your feet hooked in the footwells, then the traditional seating is probably just fine.

just one more question, what is the differance between the apex and the attack?

also what is the highest modle of the apex? is it the GT or the RTX??

Thanks

Apex is 121" track and the Attak is a 136" track. One of the most widely debated topics on this site is which is better, so I will not start that up again. I prefer the Attak because the extra track length provides better traction, bridges the bumps better, and is more stable at high speeds. In terms of top end speed, I have seen very little difference between the two models when racing on the lakes.

The RTX does not have the mono suspension. I believe it is the Pro Action or something similar, and is geared more towards jumping and ditch banging. All the other models have the mono shock suspension with the adjustment dial on the tunnel.

The GT has the premium Ohlins shock package and an electronic rear shock that can be adjusted from a switch on the handlebars.

the rx1 with the apex seat is a good option too,i find the overall seating better than the apex cuz you can tuck your feet farther in the foot wells, very comfortable and its an easy mod and will end up cheaper

Ok so the gt is the best of all of them right?
What would handle the bumps better the gt with the good shocks or the rtx??
Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to figure out what sled will suite me best,
I think the FX nytro would be the best but it's a little out of my price range right now,
I'm just trying g to figure out if the apex will stand up to the punishment of small jumps and small hill climbing,
I'm also not to sure about the 3 cylinder motor in the FX nytro is it as good as the 4 cylinder in the apex??

look up hondo's milage thread from last season. he ended the season on his rs venture with the genisis 120 3 holer with (i think it was) 32,000miles on the origonal motor. the nitro motor is based on this motor.
