Thinking of trying a new 2016 viper and need help from you guys that have them whether or not a purchase should be considered? Love the look of the white/red XTX but will need windshield change and bit scared of those Fox air shocks. Another model is STX dx 137 or maybe the tanker model 146. Having had lots of Yamaha over the years (last one 07 Attak) I now drive Skidoo 1200 but am do for a change. What I am also concerned about is speed. My 1200 Skidoo works real good and no problem showing over 100 on dream meter most any time conditions warrant. Skidoo has been excellent fun to drive sled and pretty well bullet proof like most Yamaha's. Any help would be appreciated.

- 2016 Viper XTX-LE w/ MPI turbo
Don't do it. You wont be able to.... stop smiling. I have a 16 XTX LE with an MPI turbo and absolutely love it. I also wanted a windshield and so I bought the Arctic Cat Cross Country one with mirrors. As far as the Fox shocks, don't be afraid, they work very well. I actually prefer them.

Coming from an apex I must say this 16 ltx le is the best machine I've ever owned. I have the mpi turbo also.
The only concern I have for you is the top speed. A stock viper will not do the 100 mph as easy as your where used to on your doo. That being said they are a torque monster.

What's there to think about!?!
Just do it! Best sled I've ever owned. '14 LTX SE. Love my float shocks. My only regret is I probably would have gotten the XTX looking back. I was after more trail manners so I went LTX.

From the 1200 you'll absolutely love it. Everyone I know that's used the air shocks including myself ended up spending a lot of money just to get a better more functional shock on the sled. Unless it has a cpl extra chambers. At which point they are mediocre at best. The qs3 imo and everyone I know agrees that in stock trim the qs3 equipped sled out handles and is far superior in ride quality to the air shocks. So my 2cents is to get that sled and enjoy. As it is my choice if I update to viper over the summer.

I have a 15 ltx se and love it. The guys on here will get you setup perfect. Not only is it a great sled, you have the best forum family in the industry! This site is great, everything you could ever want to know with people going out of their way to help you. A huge plus in my book.

I have a '14 XTX, that's the more usable sled I ever owned. That being said, if I were in the market for a new trail machine, I would get a new RTX SE! Or LTX LE with the QS3 shocks!

Thanks for the few responses. Would anyone else like to chime in as decision time between viper and a new 1200 blizzard is getting close.

2019 sidewinder xtx le, sleeping for now
It all comes down to what you like, if it were me I'd wait to see what Yamaha comes out with March 1st, I have a 15 ltx dx, with swapped in 1.6 ice cobra track, Imo the perfect blend for on/off trail. Thanks for the few responses. I can't speak 1200 vs Viper, but I am coming from an 08 Xp 800 Renegade and can tell you I am nothing but impressed with the Yamaha. I'm not loyal to any brand unless they want to pay me to be, so I have no horse in the race. But I really do like the Viper feel, the torque is ridiculous, the gauges, touchy-feely stuff, all outstanding.
I am NOT impressed with what seems to be a lack of knowledge with the few dealers I've spoken with, as they seem to be more interested in selling boats. Most Yamaha dealers I've found are also Marinas. I also find aftermarket support not as good as Ski Doo ( reasonable given the numbers of vehicles sold comparatively ) and the cost of Yamaha accessories seems high.
Saying all that, zero regrets. It would take something special to get me to another manufacturer right now. Love the Viper like I haven't loved something since my first ride on the Renegade.

Yes, you should buy one! Mine is a short track, with just clutching mods I'm now at 101mph top speed. Do you run a gps? I think the doo gauges are off. Mine is spot on gauge to gps. I would not buy a 16 though. Tons of 15s being advertised stateside here for less than $9K, and even some of the green ones (ac 7000) for 8100. ( at least in the midwest, not sure about where you are)
