I had to either get rid of the Apex this year or my Grizzly 550. The Apex is gone. It was much more thrilling to ride but when it came down to it it was much more expensive for the 3 months I could ride it than the 10 months I can ride my Grizzly. Plus I plow with the grizzly. I will pick up a used Apex or 1200 Doo in a couple years when the economy is better.

I would look into making a conversion to your sled to turn it into a three wheeled road going machine for the summer months. There have been a few threads about it on here. I can't imagine how much fun an apex would be on the road. THis option looks like the best way to extend the season though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmyxcabA ... re=related There is a company making a conversion kit that adds a radiator, replaces the skid with one that is hyfax free and gives you a second set of a-arms with wheels. They even make one for the nytro.

I am in the process of bailing on the sport of snomobilling as well. First, I just want to point out that this is a snowmobiling board so the chances of you finding anyone here who has fully jumped ship on the sport and not regretting it are slim to none.
I have been in the sport my whole life, and so have my friends and family. Three or four years ago it was my passion and I would have told you there was nothing like it. I am now 31 years old and for the past two years the idea of getting out has slowly been creeping up on me. Finally, this year we are getting buried with snow up here in the northeast and I still have very little desire to ride my machine let alone deal with all the work and money that goes into something I am lucky to get a two month season out of.
Somehow this year I dragged myself into doing the necessary maintenance, got my sled going, and have done some riding. Yesterday I had a great day of riding on trails that are as good as they come, and at the end of the day I was still comfortable with my decision to sell my '05 RX-1.
Perhaps the biggest factor is my primary summer hobbie...the motorcycle.
I am an avid motorcycle rider and do track time during the summers at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the roadcourse. Anyone who truly knows how to ride, and spends a good amount of time on a racetrack will tell you that sleds don't even come close bikes in the thrill category if you are willing to bring it to that level. That will fill the void for me just fine in the thrill category. Thats before we even get into the endless sport touring rides I can do on it.
There are countless people who did what I am doing in the motorcycle world and never looked back. I love riding my motorcycle just as much as my sled only my bike requires a fraction of the work and money, but provides me with waaay more opportunities to be ridden. All you do with a bike is open your garage and ride. Thats before we even get into the fact that there are far more places you can go, and you don't have to worry about rough trails etc. Also, with a bike you just change the oil, and keep the chain lubed. You don't have to deal with hyfax, carbides, trailer issues, etc.
I guess my point is...It all depends on what you replace it with. If you don't find something else that sufficiently fills the void you might find yourself drifting back to it.
But hey...If you decide you want to get back into it, just buy another sled and get back into it. You're not sealing your fate if you take a couple of seasons off.

- I had sleds until I was 25 years old.
- A move with my job "forced" me to sell the sleds, and look elsewhere.
- 13 years later, after trying Sea-Doo's (sick of doing donuts on the lake) and a 7 year relationship with ATV's, I realized that I truely missed the thrill of sleds.
- Nothing comes close (legally) to barking down a freshly groomed trail with a bunch of pals!
- Something no one has mentioned yet...trails!
- I had fun on the ATV's and travelled all over Ontario and the US, but it always seemed that the trail system was fading.
- Here in ON, trails are being shut down by tree huggers left, right and centre.
- If you're up North, there's Crown Land, but here in Southern ON, it seems like your frowned on when people see you on an ATV.
- Meanwhile, 4-6 sleds can pull into a gas station or restaraunt and people welcome their money!!
- Yeah, sleds are expensive, and the season is short, but it's hard to beat, and there's not much else to do in the winter that is cheaper!

Nothing wrong with ATV's.... but they'll never be a snowmobile. Entirely different. I've done all, ATV's, UTV's, Motorcycles and Snowmobiles, but my first love will always be a snowmobile.

I think thinking the same as you. But then today i just finish my first day of a 2 day trip and I dont even want to look at an ATV right now!
We had a big melt and the trails are done back home and I have been thinking why do i spend all this money anf the season is done after 3 weeks of open trails. Well i found some snow and i remember why i spend all that money.

Wow I feel real stupid lol
I have a sled i can use 3 months a year and and a pwc i can ride for 3-4 months a year and am loving them both. I have a quad as well but its just for working around the farm not for play. It does do nice wheelies though to entertain myself.
Riding a sled in the powder is kinda like riding the seadoo just the water sticks to you , so much more fluid than riding something with wheels.

YAMAHAS, you said it best brother,I'm always second guessing the money and the time. Once I hit the perfectly groomed trail at 100mph,it all becomes clearer and I remember why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
