I changed my sliders today and they are almost worn out. I put on 32 miles and they are about 7/8 worn out. Track is looser than before I changed my original ones with 1600 miles and it would ratchet every so often in really heavy wet snow. I had to trail out of the park on groomed trails. Every where I could find some powder along the trees I would hit it. Did not help. When I looked behind there was snow dust so the trail was not that icey. The clips on the track are now black from the heat.
What is better extra wheels or scratchers?

wheels just make them ware in other places..scratchers are the way to go...had one brake and after 100 ks..the side with no scratcher ..wore down to almost nothing..the other one looks new still.

Are there scratchers that mount to the ski? I don't want them to break off the skid from backing up by accident or have them popping up and landing on the track and damaging the track like a friend of mine.

i believe that you can get yamaha sliders that vary in quality. i put on a new set at the beginning of the season and rode almost 1500 miles on them. they were worn down to about 13 mm but i replaced them as i had the skid out - first 200 miles they were back to the same point, good snow conditions, they just burned off. i do believe if you go to polaris wheels, that will help - i'm putting polaris wheels in my phazer rtx to see if that helps.

they are called slidekicks reverse compatable scratchers and they are 69.95. Maybe some guys on here already have them and they can speak up..

That is amazing, I have 1700 miles on originals, just checked them and they still have life left. They wore down close to the wear line within the first 500 miles and haven't moved since. I think people are changing them out prematurely. We had virtually no snow on the trails just hardpack ice with a dusting on top for our last trip, I was going to change them out and decided not to, I'm glad I didn't. They didn't move at all, even stuck the track to the Hifax at one point. Mine are the black ones, what color are the ones that are wearing out so fast?

Get the marginal snow wheel kit. Never had a problem since. Wig

well over 2500 on one set and ill still run them. They wear down to the line and stay right there.

I put scratchers on and the extra wheel kit up front,
850 km now and very little wear.

the sliders wear down to a point then stay there for quite a while. with mine the first half wears extremely fast like 100-300 miles then the other half will wear real slow. like another 1000-1700 miles. I actually put 3200 miles on a single set last year. when i changed them in the off season they still had another 500 miles of life left in them.

simply added slightly larger wheels and wow what do you know.................2500+miles and 2mm of wear and this winter has had the hardest, most icy trails I can remember in years. It cost $88 and my slides should last 6000+miles easy! I dont know why every single day there is a new post regarding slides when this topic has beaten up and down in the general forum, apex forum and the nytro forum. Buy the wheels, install, and never look at your slides again. There is zero negative effects. The wheel is 1/4" larger which means it "hangs" 1/8" lower. 1/8" will not add stress to your rails and crack them as some will believe. My apex had 5000 miles with this setup on the same slides with no damage and my nytro is half way there and I pound the bumps wayy harder on this sled. TRY IT!!

So which wheel are the best ones to put on? Polaris or ski-doo? I've decided that is what I'm going to do. I also put an extra full size wheel near the back of the suspension on my SE, instead of buying the marginal snow kit...I dont like those tiny little wheels. Cost a little more to put a full size wheel, but I think it will be better.
Thanks

The reason for the small wheels isn't cost, it's clearance. If you use full size wheels make sure you cycle the suspension through its full travel to make sure nothing will contact the wheel.
