Hey guys I have a 2014 xf 7000 that is new to me. Got on it today for the first time and I think I have an issue with the throttle cable or the safety switch that it coordinates with.
First, the sled didn't want to start. It cranked and cranked until I slightly touched the throttle, then it fired right up.
When riding the rpms didn't want to come down from 3500-4000 until I pushed the throttle lever back myself. Then it would idle down and quit. Happened about 8 times in the 20 minutes I was out.
Can I tighten the throttle cable to solve this or is it most likely the safety switch?
Other than that, I loved the sled. The ride and torque were amazing. I'm coming from a 99 vmax 700, so it's quite the improvement.

Are there any upgrades done to the sled? It sounds as if the throttle return spring is loose or stretched if there is free play in the throttle and it won't return or something is riding against it, but I would not think pulling back on the flipper would bring the rpms back down.

The lever returns on its own, but doesn't seem to go back all the way until I give it the slightest touch back towards the idle position. Then rpms will come down and it will stall out.

No upgrades. The guy I bought it off had it dealer serviced last spring and they did the flash update at that time. This is the first it's been ridden since. Previously I only had it running to load it in the trailer.Are there any upgrades done to the sled? Did you buy it from a dealer or private? That is weird these are fuel injected and the butterfly should close on its own just by the spring tension. In the old carbed models the slides would hang up and cause that but have not heard anyone with that kind of trouble.
Boy you got me on that one If the dealer is close I would give them a call

I meant the one that did the flash, but that should not have anything to do with it......... Some dealers were having trouble when they flashed them not everything went as planned.

I'm not sure which dealer did it. I will tinker with the cable in the morning and see if that helps. If I can't sort it out, I will have to get it sorted out by a dealer. Off throttle and on the brakes while rpms are still going at 4000 isn't fun. Touch throttle to idle position and sled stalls when I come to a stop.

Haha yep. I'm taking it out tomorrow so I will have it tethered. Thanks for your help. Will let you know if I finds anything that helps.

Be careful not to over tighten (shorten) throttle cable. When adjusting begin with slack in the throttle lever and reduce slack from there. I beilieve there should be be 2 to 4mm between throttle lever and throttle block. When set check for the tors (safety feature) by turning handle bars lock to lock, if to tight tors will activate if so give a little more slack. In your manual there's instruction on how to adjust, might help. When starting sled have break on, just in case.

Incase anybody has the same issue... I checked my tps and it was reading 3% at the zero position. I loosened the cable a couple of turns, it dropped to 0% at zero. Just ran it a couple hours and it didn't shut down once. Seems to be problem solved.
