Thunder Products (Big Venom Viper kit) with Heavy Hitters

Snow ninja you are running the 8dn correct, glide washer's or without, also are your clutches machined for overdrive or just coil bind?
Running 8dn with glide washers, machined for coil bind only. No machining done on primary.

A couple of questions? What are glide washers? What do you mean by machining for coil bind?

Glide washers come with the BV kit and go one on each side of primary spring to keep the spring from binding against the aluminum cups. Makes the clutch more efficient. Machining for coil bind is having the secondary cup on the movable sheave cut deeper so that the stock pink secondary spring doesn't coil bind. Wraps on stock pink secondary spring touch each other near full shift causing belt slip, and the secondary can't open all the way. With TP BV Blue spring, machining the secondary is not necessary as that spring has less coils and won't coil bind.

Cool. I do have the "black" washers from the kit installed in the Primary and I have the blue spring in the Secondary.

I switched to the Gates 8DN equivalent. I doubled up on the washers on the Secondary but I have little bit of belt squeal in the primary at idle. I ordered an OSP infinite adjuster for it.

Well said bud! ;)!

Murdered137,

Shagman and I talked last night and check to see what gearing you have....you might be 21/49 which will give you about 96mph top speed.

Told Shagman to have SnoNinja pull his clutches off this weekend and let you try them...this way we know if it is an issue with your clutches.

Wish I could be there.....

It's a 15 ltx dx, it has what it came with, I thought the rtx/ltx were the same, xtx has different gear's but overall all 3 have same final ratio due to the smaller drivers in the xtx, or so I am told.

My LTX came with the 21/49 gears because it was an LE with the 1.75 track. I believe you should have the regular 24/50 if you have the DX.

So do I have turd gear's or what?

If murdered has the 24/50, that is a good thing. Going to put SnoNinja's clutches on murdered's sled and see how that works.

Trying to get both you guys running the number.... I brought it up to Shagman last night that the clutches are diecast aluminum and the area where the spider rides is not machined. This would definitely cause a binding issue if the casting twisted from heat or the die was not right to begin with.

My goal is to find another set of clutches, get them working properly and install the Big Venom kit for people to try on TY rides.

No, you should be able to run right with SnoNinja
Again I am no speed demon, I like to hit it hard 0-90 or so and let off, but it would be nice to know that my clutches are working properly, and take it to 105 if I ever need to. I don't want to take up anybody's fun time at the ty ride, but greatly appreciate the opportunity, help and everyone's interest to make this viper run.

We typically do some clutch testing early in the morning before we head out for the day. You have my phone # if needed. I have to reset my clutches before we head out on saturday so will be out early for sure and snoninja wants to try one of my helix's so he will be out also. While we are doing ours we can check yours also. there is a good spot to run not far from motel.

Hotels are booked solid, might have to come up early Saturday, won't miss it, and thanks to all.
