Ticking noise

I have a ticking noise that increases with engine rpm on my 06 Apex. It sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine, clutch side?
It has 2700 miles on it, just changed the exh donuts. When I plug the exh the engine stalls. I religiously change my oil and check it after every ride and have never been low on oil.

Does the timing chain self adjusting? if so, how often should I do that?

any other ideas? cracked header?

Thanks all.

From what I can tell, this noise is coming from the cam chain area, clutch side, top of the engine towards the back. I put a screwdriver to that area and put my ear to it and it was definately noisy.
I'm starting to think it is a loose timing chain? These have automatic adjusters, correct? Does anyone know how to test these automatic cam chain adjusters?
I've found all kinds of information about the R1 having a timing chain noise, but not too much on the Apex.

yeah mine starting ticking the other day..Gonna pull some panels and see whats going on..Almost like a thread on a belt got loose..If I find anythin I'l report back..Was hopping some of the "experts" would have chimed in...

Funny this should come up, I have only had a chance to ride mine a couple of times but something just didn't sound right. I did the gloves over exhaust thing and engine just about died so I figure the donuts are still good. (already changed them once)
I'm staying tuned in case someone comes up with something.

I called a local dealer and explained this to him. He suggested to take a closer look at the header or y pipe and also remove the round "stops" that are on the header clamps. He seemed to think it is an exhaust leak.
With only 2700 miles on it, he found it hard to believe it is possible timing chain or cam issue considering how rock solid these engines are. I hope he is right.
I'll be trying this by the end of the week and keep ya posted.

so did you find anything? I went over my engine and couldn't figure out why it was ticking.. Seems to go away as its warmed up..

could be u need a lifter adjustment, But that shouldn't be required until 20,000 mi. just a thought.

I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. He thought it sounded more like a valve issue than a cam chain issue. They will dig into it on Tuesday. Just hoping it is not a major issue with significant damage.

I'll keep ya posted.

Found my ticking/vibration noise the other day. The sled just had started to backfire under decel' so I picked up some new donuts and this is what I found

i fear im gonna find somthing like this as i am hearing backfireing , ticking and steamed gauges.

Yep , thats what mine was doin. I think the update SS Ypipe was $150 and the donuts were $20 a piece #$%&*

is it just the 1 y pipe needed? is that the same as a excelle or hawk hiflo header?

There are two Ypipes.I just needed one side. One of the pipes had been changed already by the previous owner. If I would have needed to change both I would have gone the Excell route for the simple reason of a few more hp for a few more $$ and hopefully a better product. The original titanium are crap when compared to the SS pipe.
