Time to trade - what to get - Rage or Vector?

Okay, sick of the BS with the Venture problems. I am going to trade it in for an 06 that I won't have to change the hyfax every 800 miles and fight with the factory about wheels, clutch noise, jack shaft, etc. The question is, what to get: Rage or Vector. I ride relatively agressive but I try to stick to mostly groomed trail. If I hit the bumps, I don't let it slow me down. I like a high windshield and reverse is an absolute.
Which seems a better fit and which do you think has fewer problems?

Opinions appreciated.

Bob

I am VERY happy with my 05 Rage, just turned 3,000 miles last week.
I did 2,700 miles last season in a thirty day span and the only thing I did was new carbides at 300 miles because the OEM ones suck and an oil change, track adjustment and chain adjustment. Sounds like our riding styles are about the same groomed trails but don't mind mixing it up a bit in the rough. I think you would be happy with the Rage also. ;)!

I've got one of each: 05 Vector and 05 Rage.

The trails around here in the northeast all seem to have the 121" ripple bumps.
When a bump forms, the next bump gets formed at the
natural frequency of a 121" track.

With the Rage, at 136", it bridges the gaps between the 121" bumps.
I can just fly through the rough spots, where I'd get hammered with the 121" Vector.

The Vector is more fun to ride, however. It kicks out much easier. (They are both studded with Woody's gold diggers and have doolys).

The Rage has huge traction. It's nice having that extra confidence that you won't get stuck.

The Rage is much better on my back. (I have a bad back).

From what you describe your usage is, it sounds like you are pretty aggressive and your kidneys can take the pounding :)
I'd go with the Vector. Make sure you get the reverse and get a W bracket or short rear flap
so your flap doesn't get eaten everytime you go backwards. (Stupid #*$&@ design on the flap).

I have an 05 Rage with 3,000 miles on it, and let me tell you this is a hard sled to catch in any trail even by the bigger 4cylinders with more HP ..because it just eats the bumps and it rails damn good too. I think because the skis on a Rage have the deeper keel it makes up for any push ..also stiffer front springs at stock than a shorty track. I'll never go back to a 121 track. It hooks up great and also stops better than a 121 :flag:

Ski-Doo Renegage 600SDI. My Vector eats hyfax and has deafening track howl.

so buy a Rage and avoid the Vector ...is that what your saying???? I didn't read anything about him choosing between a ski-doo and a vector??? :ORC Mainerider I got 2,700 miles out of my original hyfax last year with some grass drag miles in there also, and had a tors issue only . This is a great sled!!!

Yama- Crazy -A little defensive are you ? My Vector got 300 miles on the first set of hyfax and 400 on the next. All Quebec trail riding. I had to put extra wheels on at my cost to help slider wear which is still only about 1,000 miles. I also have deafening track howl that requires wearing ear plugs. That is why I was not recomending the Vector. He will just be wasting his money.Sorry I struck a nerve by mentioning the S word.

ok so why mention your ski-doo is the point..he is trying to decide on a Rage or a Vector not polaris Artic cat or any other. Sorry about your problems with your Vector but I'm sure not everyone is unpleased . I cant understand why you are getting such bad wear ..my track is the same as yours just longer...I rode alot of poor conditions and grass dragged I think I could have got 3,000 miles on my original hyfax...so what you are doing I dont know??? :ORC

I put on over 1400 mile on my Vector last year and in some very marginal snow conditions. The only reason I changed my hyfax this year was I had the skid out for inspection and maintenance. They could have gone another 1000 miles. Great sled. Vector or Rage, you cannot go wronge. Way to many sledders on this site love thier Vectors and Rages. This is the best sled I have ever owned. Slides tend to wear fast at first and then the wear slows down. People get excited over the little stuff. These 1 1/4 tracks like soft loose snow, to lubricate. If you want to elliminate hyfax wear go to a 3/4" track. Just my 2 cents! ;)!

May be you guys are lucky or you can not see the the slider wear thru your blue glasses. :D If I am the only one with these wear problems, why are there so many threads about SLP wear pads, drilling track holes and fully clipped tracks ? I still say he would be wasting his money trading his Venture on a Vector or Rage. His hyfax problems will not be resolved. He would be better off just putting a fully clipped 1" track and adding wheels to his Venture. The RS sleds are hyfax eaters when groomed trail riding it has been documented here many, many times.

Wait until the 3 bangers are in the DBII and Supercharge a 136"

Mainerider- Since you mentioned fighting with the factory and you are close to Canada, are you aware your warranty is not honored when riding in Canada ? I did not know it until I needed it. I had to pay for repairs then try to collect from Yamaha U.S.A. which of course found some loop holes why they would not pay. Seriously consider a Renegade.

So get rid of your Vector, buy yourself a SkiDoo and head on over to DooTalk. Seriously, if you're so bent out of shape over it, why are you still here. Yeah, yeah, I know...so you can shed some light on the hidious short comings of the Yamaha Vector......come on.

Not all RS sleds are "hyfax eaters". It's also been documented that many Vectors go thousands of miles on a set of hyfax. Everyone is sorry to hear of your issues, but don't try to scare this guy into believing that ALL RS sleds have them. I'd be willing to bet that more SkiDoos are having ring problems than Vectors with hyfax or track howl (what ever that is....mine sure doesn't).
