My external fuel pump was just wired to stock leads and it always made a weird noise when I first turned on the key before engaging the starter. I always thought that the noise was the pump priming. Today I checked the voltage to the pump and it was 2 volts lower than the battery. So I decided to install a relay to run the pump of the battery. Now I get full voltage, no weird noise and the pump sounds a lot better. When I was doing I couldn't believe the size of the stock wires, it had to be 18 gauge. I ran 12 gauge wires for the pump now with an inline fuse. Just wondering how it was doing while I was riding? But this should be better for the pump and fuel supply.
Just a little recommendation.

That's the way to do it. I run my fuel pump and water/meth system off the battery activated by a relay with heavy wires over a 30Amp fuse.
