Vzoner, did you install 6" carbides on both the sides of a Simmon ski? I put 6" on the inside and left the outside at 4" per some suggestions from others on this site. Looking forward to testing in out in a week. Just curious.

I only have the 4 inch on the inside. But I only have 96 studs, according to Simmons, that is what they suggested. That is interesting with running the dual carbides, please post how it works.

I went to 6" on both sides of mine and it turns on a dime compared to the 4". I still do not understand the spring situation but again I am not a suspension specialists. If the 03 shocks were 1.9 to 3.0 why would they be tippier than a straight rate 1.9. According to the specs they would start out at 1.9 which is equal to a 04 straight rate, and than get stiffer.

Greenmachine this is definitely hard to understand on paper but I'll try. The variable rate springs (1.9-3.0) have such a small amount of spring that is at the 1.9 rate that when you preload the spring you can't preload it enough to truely get the into the 1.9 rate of the spring. Its kinda like bouncing on the edge of a 1.9 rate spring. Thus creating a lighter actual rate. When you run the 04 stlye straight rate spring (1.9) you can preload it and actually get into the true 1.9 rate of the spring. Some people also feel that the 1.9 straight rates might be to light of a spring but it is the valving in the shock also working with the spring to give you the quality of ride your after. For a general trail cruiser the 1.9 seem to be the ticket with the 03 stock valved shocks. If you are a more aggresive rider look into the 2.1 or higher rated springs. Hope this helps.
My 03RX-1 was also very tippy before I made some changes. I put on a Pioneer Perf. re-valved rear shock (great improvement for a fair price), 11 mm sway bar, longer front links , then I had to tighten up the stock ski springs(yes, tighten them up). With this set up I can have the limiter straps down, dial in some weight transfer, and the ride is smooth with excellent handling. Its a blast to ride now.
