I hate them. They're hard on the track, the bogey wheels, trailer beds, garage floors, you name it, there's nothing good about them - EXCEPT that one time a year when they save your butt.

i put one on the wifes vector, and one is going on the attak before it ever hits the snow...... i really like the ice ripper, you get the best of both worlds, still tears on the floor/trailer.... oh well u have to give to get.

IMHO: It depends on how and where you ride. Personally, I like the added control they give you on icy terrain.

I've got both my sleds studded, '05/144 and '03/162, they are the first two sleds I have ever studded. After 2 seasons studded I will not go back to unstudded, I've got my shares of close encounters by not beeing able to stop on icy trails and rivers. I run studs on the outside as well with great traction as a result. Yes there are cons with studding as mentioned above, but I feel the pros of added security and traction weights out the cons.

it was in reguards to studs being like training wheels.....
once you learn to ride, you take them off.

After ridding the last two seasons without them, I am studding this year. To many close calls last year on the ice to stay unstudded.

I put on a "Ice Ripper" Ripsaw last year and loved it. I would not go back to studs again. Last time with studs on my RX1, wrecked the track, it blew and studs went thru my front cooler. Trashed a whole bunch of expensive parts. Go with the Ice Ripper, you won't be dissapointed.
