I recently installed an ECP kit .

162.5 jets, lifted the needles .5 over stock, 2.5 turns, red springs.

This seems to be the groove at our altitude. Plugs look good.

However, I have a bit of a hesitation when I'm in the high rev range, let off and hit it again. Do I need perhaps different springs again? We are at 2500 feet and I ride to 7k more or less.

I noticed that I need the carb heaters on more now than before too. More cold air I suppose?

Hi Mr Fred,

I was wondering if I could get your advice on the post I left on a hesitation after the ECP install. I got a used set of filters from someone a while back who went to a turbo.

It works great with a bit of clutching work too. The info on the tuning is in my post.

The hesitation happens when I'm at 9-10.5 k under load then let off and then punch it again. Theres about a half second burbling sound and then it seems to catch and go again. I originally put yellow/green springs (still don't know which because they look different in different light) and the hesitation was more. After we went to red springs, the hesitation was less.

With the filter install, I also added a Micron R-1 muffler. I ran it for a while before the filter install and the plugs looked good.

We originally put in 160 jets, but the sled plugs were getting pretty white, so we upped to 162.5.

Input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Most times burbling when getting back into the throttle is caused by too light of a CV slide spring. In your case however, the lighter springs seemed to help. Therefore, I would suggest you try even lighter ones...especially at higher altitudes. The addition of ahigher flowing exhaust system might require to richen the main jet and or needle clip position as well.

Hope this helps you out.

Freddie

Thanks, I'll keep working on it.
Yes we synchronized. We did not do it again after we changed the jets a second time. The linkage should still be good I hope?

I didn't feel comfortable taking the carbs off until I had someone show me the tricks so now I know how and can continue.

Am I right in understanding that the slides may be delayed reopening at high rev when I let off momentarily because of less vacuum due to the free flow filters?

So a weaker spring may let the slides open faster?

What will start to happen if the springs get too weak? It won't run away on me will it?

Is there some shot of fuel mechanically injected (like an accelerator pump) on these carbs when the throttle is depressed or is it all to do with the sliders?

no it wont run away as the throttle plate(butterfly plate) is closed when you let off the throttle. there is no extra fuel circut such as an accelerator pump.

where you can marry a fag but you cant smoke one

Some things just make me proud to be Canadian.(not) I don't agree with both.

Thanks for the info. I've got silver and blue springs coming tomorrow.

I'll give em a whirl...
