Does everyone hear this? when I'm idling I have some noise in the top end is this a normal operating sound. the sled is an 03 rx er le with about 2300 miles on it. If it is a worry what's the fix (shims). Can't really hear it when throttling up.
thanks

All engines make some noise, it's probably normal. But if you hearing a loud distinct ticking you may want to get it checked out. At 2200 miles you shouldn't have any problems. What oil are you using?

The clutch on these sleds do rattle. The noise will go away at around 2k rpms. Are you sure the noise is in the top end?

You are going to have to be a lot more descriptive, if you want some help. Do you have anyone near you with a similar sled to compare the "noise in question" to?

Clutch rattle is normal.

Reduction gear rattle is normal.

When the sled is cold, put your covered hand over the exhaust pipe(s) and see if you are getting exhaust leakage in under the tunnel. It could be your exhaust gaskets are getting old and consequently loose.

Sorry I'm late but I use Mobil 1 syn. 0-30 and I do only here it a low rpm's. Just thought it may be time for adjustments. Like the one I just posted for the drive belt
Thanks

im sure that the valve adjustment / shims is at 40,000 kms. which is a long way away. i got this information straight from the dealer, i have an R1 street bike its valves are due at 48,000 kms. i just wanted to compare. the reduction gear / clutch are very noisey at low rpms.

When I first heard the clutch rattle on mine, which I'm told is common at low RPM, I thought it sounded like it was coming from the motor. Take the belt guard off and rule that out first.

The Clutch and the Reduction Gears rattle, which is normal. Set your RPMs to idle at slightly above 1500 RPM. Most of the rattle goes away. If not, the carbs, probably need syncing.

It's the clutch and reduction gear. If the motor was making an audible noise the first run to 10,700 would make a big noise - take it from a guy that blew 2 of em and they never made a sound till pop.
