It looks like I'm going to replace some track clips.

I have a a few questions. Is dennis kirk the best place to buy the tool? What do you have to do to get access with the tool? Do you drop the back of the suspension to get access?

Thanks in advance.

If you get the "vise" like tool, you can replace the clips without doing anything to the track or suspension. There is enough room just ahead of the rear idler wheels to slide half the tool in from underneath. If you get the "pliers" type tool, you will probably need to drop the skid out as this tool clamps from the inside.

I have the tool if you wish to borrow it. PM Me

Rich Motorsports sells both the clips and the tool. I would borrow the tool if you can. If I remember right its about $70.
Clips are sold in 10 packs.

Thanks to max for the offer, and to the rest of you for the advise.

One more question. Is there a trick to removing clips?

I just took another look, and I have 11 broken, or missing. All on the right side.

You would be better off taking it to your dealer. The tool can be very expensive for the longer lugged tracks. BTDT

I bought the tool out of JR Graham that is shown in the yellow case and has the wide and narrow attachment. The descriptio says good for up to 1" lug tracks, but it worked OK on my 1.25" ripsaw (It just squishes the last 1/4" of the lug).

In the past, I have slit the old clips with a die grinder where they are worn from the hifax and prie off with a screw driver.

Can you go ahead and cut all the windows open and clip the rest of the track?

Yes my buddy did his OEM Ripsaw last year, its a intense job you have to cut out every hole exactly square to original size and then clip them on with either a special 2 part type of press with impact or with special 30" pliers...

I was going to do mine but now i'm not so sure, he seems to heat up his slides more often than I with closed every 3rd..snow condition play a big role, when the condition get on the marginal side of things or on really really cold days on hard packed the closed every 3rd seems to perform better...

For top end speed we really didn't notice any big difference fully clipped or not 'nor gas milage.

i have done tons of these clips, the yellow kit works great. pry off the thin/broken ones with a large screwdiver and use an impact to gun the new ones on. Make sure to use anti seize on the threads when using the impact or you'll kill the threads on the tool. You can do it easily on the sled just loosen the track all the way.

clips

Thanks guys.

I took a clip off to see how hard it was. I grabbed the side of the clip with vice grips, pulled clip away from rubber, and used a screwdriver to pop it off.

I'll be doing the job Monday.

all that attakdog said...other than I'd use an air wrench..impact still kill the threads even with anti seize....

I punched open the third windows and fully clipped last year...hell of a job...well worth it if time isnt a big concern...

someone else on here had a happy comprimise which if I had to do all over again would do...hole saw open the closed windows and no clip...

yeah after 100 or so clips i killed the threads on the bolt, made 2 new backups with some threaded rod and a nut welded on the end tool side still ok
