Track Clipping

This is a dumb question but I can't find an answer on any forums or via google olia.

What is the purpose of clipping?

Is there any advantage of having a fully clipped track? Are there any disadvantages besides weight?

I'll be taking delivery of a new sled soon and considering swapping out the stock 1.25 ripsaw for a 1.25 ice ripper if the dealer doesn't bone me terribly on it. If I decide to do it, it would be nice to specify what clipping I want so I don't look like an idiot if they ask what clipping I want ;-)

I clipped my track because I run anti ratchet drivers...

Full clipped has less resistance running over the sliders than clipped every 3rd.
