Track marks after ZX2 install

Take a look at my tunnel protectors. This has only happened since I have installed the ZX2. I wonder if it is part of the reason of my premature track failure. ADBoivin seems to think it is normal, but those marks are pretty dark and it never happened with the mono.

I will be removing the tunnel protectors before the season begins as I will not be running studs...

i have had alot worse marks than that, longer and same darkness , and never had a track fail. Mine rubbed further back on the protectors though. Maxdlx

Thinking more about it, I'd say it may depend on how the marks where put there. Mine was from ballooning and rubbing, yours looks like it is from drag from not enough room. Do you know which it is? Maxdlx

I had worse track rubbing marks when running the proaction skid. Those marks are created when you let of throttle and/or when you're breaking. When on throttle the track is pritty tight on top and somewhat loose after the drive sprockets.

Those marks looks pretty normal to me. I also had marks on the front heat exchanger protectors, from running the track way loose.

I'm not running studs on the turbo sled this year so I removed the tunnel protectors, with the Zx-2 there is not a lot of clearance in the rear above the idler wheels in the tunnel.

All I can see wearing would be the ends of the lugs of the track. Probably wouldn't cause the track to fail.

Back when I first installed the ZX2 in my sled, I remember reading all the posts and concerns about feeling vibrations in the suspension. Many of us surmised that it was the track rubbing and this certainly supports that theory.

I didn't notice any track marks on my tunnel protectors like yours Mdkuni, but when I look over my sled again, I will look more thoroughly.

Got the same mark on my sled with mono suspension.

rxrider description is right on,black mark are from track ballooning from acceleration to deceleration and top speed.I have also black mark on my front heat exchanger because sometime i run my track too loose.

So i think your ZX2 is pretty normal.

There is room in that area, it is tight but there is room. I am not sure how that compares to the mono.

I certainly don't want my track rubbing agaisnt anything when I am doing 115mph. So I will make sure to remove the top protectors, I think I will leave the ones on the front cooler as they are not an issue. Plus it will fix the ice build up problem.

I wondered this myself although my vibration seems much more harsh then the track rubbing on something. It feels like wheels running over the track cogs or the drivers slipping.

I will be replacing my drivers as they were worn after 14,000 miles and that along with the tunnel protectors maybe the vibration will be gone. I will let you know how it plays out.

Go with the doo extro's, they sure wear very nice. I also didn't notice teh vibration that some were taling about. When I get mine out for a inspection I will check my tunnel protectors as well. Thanks

The WhalBros extros could be causing vibration. All WhalBros drivers I have ever seen have been out of round and/or had runout sideways as well.

Stock drivers and the Bombardier (Doo) drivers are made close to perfect.

Yeah we have put all kinds of drivers on a lathe and had them measured with a MicroMeter, accuracy down to a 100th of a millimeter or a 1000nd of and inch.

The worst set of WhalBros I have seen (my own set) had 6 millimeter total runout (up and down movement). If put in like that they would surely caused massive vibration, on they lathe I had them trimmed down to perfectly round both on the outer teeths and on the inner cogs, and of course all cogs were trimmed to the same outer diameter, the same with the outer teeths. :)

Jan-Ove have you tried Avid Drivers? I think I'll be installing them on my Nytro...I've got the doo drivers on my RX, but I think I might check the Avid's out this coming season

No, I have not experience with the Avid drivers, only AC, Doo, Yamaha and WhalBros.
