I have never installed a set of studs. I have a 2015 Viper RTX SE with a 1.25" track. I have the following questions:
- How long of a stud should I use? (based on what I've read I think 1.375)
- How many studs? (want general good hook up and ability to stop, mostly trail ride, not a lake racer, don't want problems turning either)
- Which pattern and does the stock track already have a pattern to it?

Appreciate the help, spoke with Stud Boy (Michigan Company) and they recommend Power Pts. 1.375 with 96 minimum for safety and 135 for decent hook up.

Start by inventorying how many "bays" you have to stud. Then pick a number per bay. Same number per bay or alternate bay to bay.

I plan on putting 144 on my 137". Going up the middle in "2-1" pattern in each "bay".
A double on the right, single on the left, then opposite in the next "bay" and so on...

Is the stock track 2 ply? Also, was there a pre-mapped patter on the track itself?

Your track has 45 bars. 3/bar would work good for all around trail riding. 135 studs. I would 1.50" as 1.375 are a little short. Rule of thumb for studs is .25" above lug height.

Def go 1.5" studs, 1.375 will be a waste of time and money. My buddy has a real nice pattern on his viper, he did 4 per row and went every other lug using double backers. For best trail performance prolly not gonna want to stud the outside lugs, 135 studs, 3 per row would make for a good setup as the viper is very torquey, stud on the side of extra rather than not enough. Regular 1.5" studboy power points are the best studs I've used yet

I have used the 1.4 extreme max with great results on the 1.25 ripsaw tracks. I am going 144 up the middle

Whatever pattern you use. I would use double backers at every stud location. There is less chance of pull throughs and bending.
I did two studs(one double backer) per section, staggered. I have a 137 track so that came out to 110 studs.

My thumb must be different. I always went by the 3/8" over the lug rule when studding. It's always worked fine for what I do. No bent or broken 1.375's in a 1.25 lug track for me.

Team at Stud Boy recommnded a 1.375" stud for a 1.25" track for trail riding and indicated 135 studs would be the recommendation for trail riding.

I guess it all depends on how you measure the stud length, as they all seem to be different. I selected to do a snowX style pattern using staggered double backers. 90/1.375" studs and 45 double backers. Can't wait to try it out.
