Track Studding 101...

I never got around to it but will be adding them this summer. Based on Woody's site I'm going to go with 135 studs on a 129 track which has 45 bars to stud. I will order the 1.325 length gold diggers which put the penetration at 3/8 above the lug height.

See Woody's chart. https://assets1.mytrainsite.com/501450/appl_tips_g1-06-0001_rev073013.pdf?r=1600

I wouldn't waste your money on 1.325 length studs, if you're going with woodys studs then go atleast 1.45"..especially on this ripsaw 2 track.

Woody's 1.325" have more penetration than studboy 1.375"

Just adding some useless information.

Am I missing something here? I would have thought 3/8 of stud beyond the lug with 135 of them would provide plenty of grip for a trail rider.

For hard pack to icy Mn trails we have had really good results with 1.4 Xtreme max, round backers 3 per bar - V down the middle and alternating outside the rails left then right, close to rail then next on that side middle of outer band these have almost all been on Ripsaw 1 or 2 - minimal added push good bite and GREAT braking which is why we stud.

We have done this on many sleds over the last 20 years -Yamaha Apex x2, XTC x2, Vector x2, Polaris 800 XCSP, Polaris Rxl x2, Arctic Cat 800 pro Cross the first and the only track issue was on the 2006 Apex after 10,000 miles.

Other than a few slightly bent studs our group of riders love the ripsaw 1.4 extreme Max combo.

We would love to experience the deep snow problems others complain of with the Ripsaw but not going to happen where we ride.
