What tension do you that are riding your 137" Vipers have on the track, at least to start with ?

Mine was delivered super tight. About what the book says, 2" down from slides with 25 lbs. pressure. This is fiddle string tight. I have loosened the adjusters about 4 turns but not enough snow to test out.

You don't really need to run a track loose anymore. I have always run my tracks at specified tensions. All of my cats have been way tighter than this. I actually thought 2" was a little to much.

Probably can be a little loose to take away some friction because it has extrovert drivers. Don't know if I spelled that right. Maybe 2 inches would be max. Or close to.

That 2" is pulling down at 25 lbs. Thought it was to tight cause I could barely turn it. Unless it loosens with weight on the sled ?

Just checked my spec sheet it calls for 2" at 12-15 pounds.

LTX 137 inch track.

It will loosen up with some miles on it too. I would make it a little loose. Not to much sag but enough that your not smelling hyfax. Lol.

Thanks for the heads up, I was using the book which says 129" =20lbs., 137" = 25lbs., and 141"= 12 to 15 lbs. Dug out the spec. sheet and will use it from now on.
Loosened the track 6 1/2 turns to get to 2" at 15lbs., looks a lot better and hangs down approx. 1 1/8 to 1 1/4".

You can always tighten a turn or two if needed which I prefer on tracks. Just remember it's difficult to adjust on the trail so give it a try near your work space should you need to tighten and remember the track will stretch most in the first couple hundred miles.

you guys can run those tracks lose with the drivers that are the viper. lose track is much faster, and not as hard on bearings. a tight track will lose power plus eat your axle bearings.

I did mine to spec and then just a little tighter, I know this track is going to loosen off a bit though the first 3-5 rides, then I will re-adjust it to a very loose setting.

I agree.. bad idea... loose is not fast, Keep it to spec

When I had my Nytro up for sale everyone asked if I had unusual fast wear on on my slids. I said no and had no idea what they where taking about until I did some reading on this site.

My original slids lasted around 2500 miles and thats with the track set at factory settings.

Quick question on the track tension, My sleds in my garage and I don't have my snowmobile lift here, all have is the bumper stand, I cant get the rear end of the sled high enough to get under it with a scale to pull down 25 pounds, can I get away with putting 25 pounds of weights in the skid and tightening until I have 2" between the track and the sliders?
