traded in my ape xtx 1.25 lugged sled for the sidewinder LTX-LE

I am not sure if they are referring to the 129 or the 137 when talking about top speeds .
Is the 137 le , all about the 4 Kashima shock package ?
My only concern is that the Kashima 4 , can be made soft enough , if desired ?
So the attack angle of the 129 , is why they put an extra set of bogie wheels up front , that the 137 doesn't have ?
When I rode a 2015 Viper , I couldn't get it soft enough , but I hear they addressed that stiffness issue in 2016 , and further more in 2017 .
The sleds seemed to be set up very soft , all versions of Sidewinders at the sneak peak .
Not only up and down , but also side to side . Did anyone also notice that ?

The LE is also about the RR suspension, heated seats, and team blue color, besides the better shock package with the Kashima coating! The RR suspension and blue color is what I wanted!!

I wish they would allow track and windshield choices for the LE, but they do not.

And yes Woodys seems like the premiere choice in my area because of his turbo experience . He has been turbo since 2003 RX1. He use to deal with Justin @ FPP, they are both Boost Heads!

I looked at the pics of the 129 , and the 137 , and you can really see the difference of attack angle
Is that just for off trail , deeper snow , so it gets up on top of the snow easier/ quicker ?
I also think that the SW could use a deeper lugged track ,for additional traction ,and are considering a 1.5 Ripsaw , or a 1.6 Ice Cobra , and adding 2 studs per section on either track .
I think on a head to head race , that by the time the 1.25 ripsaw catches up to either of my track options , it is a loooooooong way down Kevlar Lake .
I have heard that there is always a certain amount of slippage , at all speeds .
If that is true , and my track options have less slippage at all times , you may never catch me , even with your reduced weight and resistance .
I had a sled that I switched from the 1.25 to the 1.5 Ripsaw , and the difference was very noticeable , and made the sled quicker , but not faster , but not necessarily slower either .
Maybe there are others reading , that have real world testing of this track scenario , I am considering .
Every upgrade I have done on my Apex XTX , has come from what I have read on this site , and there isn't one change I wouldn't do again , in a heart beat .
You may want to look at the XTX_LE instead of the LTX_LE it has all of the goodies that the LTX plus a deeper height track, maybe it might be a tad to tall, but what I have done in the past,if the sled of choice had a lug height to tall,i trimmed it down 1/4" or so,but what you get,is the chance to test and try the taller track,to see if its not better suited to your riding style, you may find you really like the 1 3/4 " height vrs 1 1/2 height, and you don't have to swap out tracks, just a thought.

Be nice to get the deposit back and go to Woodys. They know their stuff @ service department too.
Keith woods was my first choice, but he really did not want my 15 xtx,his yard is so loaded with used stuff,he was only going to give me 7 grand on trade, sled is mint, and I got 9 grand in bangor.

Woody and I were both on the pond racing our 03 rx1's togeather, plus racing on the grass togeather in Raymond off rt 302 years a go,keith and I go back a ways,he is and always has been a great guy,and he knows his stuff, just could not spark a deal this time.

I know there is another thread going for this but i'm on the fence about this XTX /LTX decision. I really don't want to go back to a 1.25 in track, but i like the QS3r shocks and the RR skid. I personally beat the #*$&@ out of my Attak skid as it's been welded and rebuilt several times. I went with the back country 1.75" this year and loved it. I also like the thought of having the extra length with the 141".

I have heard that the apex 136 were as fast if not faster then their 128 counterpart on top end!

I have no first hand knowledge of this as others do. Had an rx1 and then many years later went back to that kind like chassis with an Attak but had a turbo on it !

I wonder if you should look at the same style chassis as sidewinder which is Viper?
What are they saying about top speed in a viper on the different track lengths?

I myself enjoy the better ride of the longer track but not the extra push in corners, so I am willing to go 137 but hope they are as fast on top end, but maybe not, I think they talk about the 128 when they say 122 GPS, right?
No those sleds that were gps's were all 137's not 129's woody himself had his gps and they were on a perfect airstrip with great snow, for top speeds, some of the test riders out in eleavation had seen 115-116 speedo and not sure if any of them guys had gps,but the new Yamaha speedos are w/in 2 mph at 110 gps,so when my 15 apex xtx is going 112 my gps is 110,not 100% sure about the viper speedo, maybe someone who has one can let us know how accurate they are.

Viper speedo was very accurate, mines was only ever off like 1mph

Thanks for that info MNM, glad to know it was the 137.

Yeah trade in price matters, good for you!

This thread might help you decide what rear skid is better for you. There's lots of good threads in the viper forum regarding some of these questions. This one is from nos-pro.

I'm on the fence about spring order. If I do I'm going for the XTX LE and try the 1.75 for a season. If I'm not happy I'll put on an Ice Cobra.

Or apparently some guys trim the lugs to get to 1.5 , or 1.6 , and in some cases have a stiffer lug than , the available options .
This appears to be a much less expensive way of doing it .
I have never tried it , but there are those who have , and swear by it .

Yeah I thought about that but my 2 concerns are 1. No studs, 2. Hyfax wear. Im honestly not that concerned about 2 as one of my regular riding buddies made our trip to Quebec this year with an Assault with 2" paddles and he had no problems. I would go to the Ice Cobra for the built in picks if I get freaked out by no studs. or having issues at gas pumps parking lots etc.

I spoke to the man who took my ape in trade, and today we split it,so I keep the price but he buys and installs them, like someone else said, they bet he would even install the duponts, maybe not even change them out,IMO they are still good for another 3,000 miles, but that's me.

When the dealer looked it all over he said my slides needed to be replaced, now we had already looked at it,real close, and the wear was near the rear wheels where they all seem to wear, this sled came with duponts on it,and the track was bare never studded, but I left my scratchers on so he could see it may of been worse w/out them, slides have 3001 miles on the sled, only ran it this year for 43 total miles. And they were near perfect for 90% of the slides other than that little area,he said he has never seen that type of wear on any sled that came with duponts on before,so I knew that he would want to take 200 off the sled,or I would get them myself and install them, sense I took the sled back to the house,as he did not want it till next fall, when my sidewinder comes in,any one have a place to get these duponts for less than 80 bucks per side?

That is where my Duponts wear, if they had put the vespel inserts down another couple inches they would never wear out. Course in the Whiteshell I destroyed one Dupont and ripped out about half the inserts on one side only. Unlike the first sets the last two are wearing funny along side the inserts. Have an original set from the early runs of Duponts in it now so if they don't wear funny its the new runs of Duponts. First set of Duponts lasted for 3500 miles. Second set around 2,000 but where wearing good, changed cause going on a trip. then 1600 and 500 on the last two. All of them wore out just before the last idler wheel where the vespel ends.

On my viper I put 3200 miles on stock sliders, still looked great. (Changed for thr sake of changing) No marginal snow the first year I rode it. Put a set of duponts on it and 1800 miles later they were shot. Slide life on the cat skid is actually pretty decent.
