I am attempting to install a Trail Tank into my 09 Nytro RTX SE. The tank slides in with minimal issues. My Problem is the studs at the rear of the tank are to short- about 1/4 to an 1/8 of a inch to short. I have tried evrything to get the nuts started, but its just not happening. Any body else have this problem? any way to lengthen the bolt/studs?

I've been reading up on the tank install recently (got one coming myself) and some have had this issue as well. What I've heard is that you really have to force it to get the bolts started...extra oomph factor required.

no amount of oomph is going to get these to work. THe tank is way to thick at the bolt holes,like a 1/4 inch thicker then the stock tank.

Those nuts bolts actually can get pushed down a bit when installing the tank. Gently pull the studs up as to not tear up the threads on them or push up on them from below. I had the same problem and doing this allowed to get a couple of threads into the nut and the rest took care of itself.

cant access them from below unless you drop the suspension. THats way to much uneccessary work just to put a tank on

Just installed the trail tank on the SE last week...went really well. Those two nuts are definantly the toughest part of the install. What I did was take a flat blade screw driver stick it downwards on the stud and then pry upwards using the tank as leverage. Worked out really nice...just make sure not to put too much pressure on the stud and damage the threads. I don't understand why they don't just thin down that part of the tank so this isn't an issue!

I ended up making collars that threaded over the studs, thus increasing thier length. I then just threaded a bolt into the collars and it worked. PIcture a tube that was threaded the same pitch as the tank studs. Tank removal should be way easier even tralside with this modification

I've always found that an ice cold beverage gets the tongue to hang in the right position. The new approach angle keeps the heart rate lower and tends to get the job done without any missing tools.

Mine bolts got pushed down while installing the tank. I was able to tap them up from underneath and then I was able to get the nuts started. Make sure the tank is forward so that the bolts are in the back of the slots. Trial fit the seat to make sure the seat holes line up with the support before torquing down the nuts completely.

question as to the O ring...one came taped tot the detent around the hole for the fuel pump..I assume this should be used there right>? and then I take the metal ring directly over the pump with no additional O ring there? the instructions arent very detailed and actuall mention O ring(s) as in 2???

1 o-ring on the pump and 1 o-ring on the sending unit. That is it.
I have had my trail tank on for 1400 miles, recently removed to check tank for any melting on tank near tunnel. When I reinstalled it would not slide forward in the slots all the way, I wonder if it expanded, I can't slide the tank forward no matter what I do, even tried lightly tapping with a block of wood, I had a really hard time lining up the seat bolts.
