So I got the speedo bearing off finally with a bearing puller (needed one even with the two set screws out) and I can't pull the drive shaft through either side. Does it go towards the clutch side or chain case side to remove it. All I remember doing it from the first time was that it goes one way, diagonal and then out. just don't remember what way that was. What makes it harder is that I am trying to get it out with a 2" paddle track and 9t drivers. Big tip to anyone putting a big track on...use 8t or below drivers for convince.

I always go to the chain case side first, that allows for the shaft to drop on the clutch side. Do you have the inner chain case removed?

Once the inner case is removed the shaft needs to be pushed through the chain case side so the clutch side end can drop down. The drivers will get hung up on the track so you need to wiggle it around to get it to slide through.

What do you mean by inner chain case? I have the gears removed for the drive shaft and the shaft will wiggle back and forth, but wont go through either side.

the chain case has two halves to it the outer is the cover that allows you to see and remove the gears the inner is tight against the sled. you have to remove the inner as well to get the drive shaft out.

Just remove the bolts right? I didnt have to do that when I had the 121" 1" track on it. I will try this way though once it warms up just a tiny bit.the chain case has two halves to it the outer is the cover that allows you to see and remove the gears the inner is tight against the sled. you have to remove the inner as well to get the drive shaft out.

Yes, remove a couple more bolts, makes the job a hole lot easier! make sure you clean up the jack shaft before you slide the case off and spray some WD-40 on the shaft and slide case of straight.

What size nut holds the top gear to the jack shaft. I can't even fit a huge crescent wrench on it. That nut is the reason why I couldn't get the chain case off before and somehow did it with out taking out the whole assembly.

I use 2 big adjustable wrenches 1 on the nut and the other on the drivers shaft.
The size of the nut on my Apex is 36mm. I had to buy the special socket and splined socket from MPI and use an impact gun to get mine off. The right tool really made a difference. I tried all the other things listed on this post with no luck.
