hey guys,

Looking for some advice from you long time turbo rx1 owners who have some miles and many hours under their belt with boosted sleds.

What must-have accessories/fittings or other gadgets are out there that are considered a necessity for these sleds from either a performance or reliability standpoint. I'm particularly interested in upgraded fittings that are an improvement over the majority of those issued in the standard kits. I know how important high quality fittings are on boosted applications however do not have the experience with rx1/apex turbo kits to know what turbo companies are offereing in their kits in respects to hardware.

I already have started gathering stuff like boost and temp gauge,AEM wideband, Electronic boost controller, 10:1 wiseco's etc. I'll be needing some anti-ratchet drivers as well.

Any thoughts or advice? If any of you have any specific product links to the manuf. website would be great.

thanks!

You didn't say if its a RX1 or Apex. If its a RX1, mpi billet t's, super tips carb covers, JE 9 to 1 pistons with 1 head gasket, liquid boost gauge, big one (2 5/8). Silcone hose and plastic tee's to join the carb nipples together and have the bov's hooked to them and boost gauge. Not sure where your turbo is going, but a bigger air filter. You already list a electroinc boost controller, just look at all the turbo makers and you will see different things from each that have good points.

sorry about that, this will be a front mount on an apex.

I guess many of the vital fittings on the Rx1 are related to the carbs which obviousl does not apply.

What are "super tips carb covers"?

They are billet carb cap covers . Sometimes at hi boost the plastic covers can leak & cause problems. The billet aluminum carb caps eliminate this potential problem.

I would worry more about how the turbo company is compensating the fuel mapping for the fuel injected Apex. The stock ECM on the Yamaha only compensates fuel for weather conditions, throttle position and engine RPM. To properly compensate the fuel mixture, the aftermarket controller will have to know for each throttle position/RPM setting what is the actual boost. With a turbo, the engine load will affect each of those settings because the actual boost can vary. For straight line acceleration, the mapping is less complicated because the boost can be modeled. Trail riding adds a lot more variability to the mix. Another question is what are they doing for cold weather startup because turbos complicate this slightly. Just some thoughts.

Blue: i didnt realize you had an apex!?! this just very recent? still have the mach?

The fuel issue is something that I'm well aware of and will be a deciding factor in the kit I choose. I'm not totally satisfied with any of the setups out there but it sounds as though Simons may be working on something new possibly?

Right now I'm basically looking for any upgraded parts that will complete the system when I do the install in the spring/summer.

I have a 07 Apex on order, but the Mach Z will stay in the mix because it is running too well to get rid of it. My son is driving me nuts to go trail riding all of the time and I love the Z on the trails. BRP didn't come out with anything better than my 05 that perked my interest.

pistons or head shim
boost controller
A/F meter
liquid filled boost gauge
gauge pod
adjustable clutch weights
blow off valve

-More HP
Carrillo rods
head studs
valves
bigger turbo
bigger blow off valve
upgraded fuel system
NOS
stroker kit
ect...

Some kits come with this stuff and some do not require the AF meter.
