I just snowchecked a ntyro mtx and will be boosting it pretty quick. Im wondering if a single stage turbo produces more power than a single stage supercharger. If so how much heat guard do you have to install. I read that the single stage supercharger can run on 87 octane fuel, will it put out more power with 50/50 mix with race fuel? Your opinions would be appreciated.

For your info, in this article it says that the stage 1 supercharger kit for the Nytro would run with premium gas!

No, the supercharger stage one wont produce the power as a turbo will. As far as the 87 octane thing, i am almost positive you have to run a 50/40 even on stage one kit on a super. It comes down to preference with what you want, if you want more power and better fuel economy go with a turbo. I have been around some good running supers but they are very limited in what they can do and dont have the performance of the turbo. Look through the turbo/super section on these forums and you will have a lot of questions answered.

HYFLYR, Is there any added maintenance with the Turbo or SG?

Well, i put over a 1,000 miles on my mcxpress kit and havent touched a thing since install. To me they truley have a install and ride kit. I check the oil every once in a while but it hasnt moved a bit. I have looked everything over a couple times this season just for peace of mind to make sure everything was tight and in place and it was, nothing had changed.
I have a few guys running the superchargers here and they keep blowing off their intercooler or throttle bodies because they dont come with a blow off valve whereas my kit comes with two. They have nice kits(MPI) but they dont make the power the turbos do and they still have some fuel mapping refinning to do. It can be a little rich and pop on the low end but supposedly for next year it wont be a problem. So for your question, i think the mcxpress kit is almost a trouble free kit, my buddy i always ride with has over 2,000 miles on his and not a problem either and these are mtn miles where you spend most of your time at moslty full throttle or close too, not easy lake and trail miles.

thanx hyflyr for the reply, that helps me in deciding on a turbo i think. My buddy is getting a nytro mtx as well and he insists that superchargers are the way to go. He says they produce way less heat, i dont know much about turbos and supers cuz i have always ridden a bomber without any mods. The other weekend i rode with a M1000 and he spanked me pretty hard on my 04 summit 800 151, so thats when i decided to upgrade, i told him next year would be different and he said he would still spank me cuz someone is coming out with a turbo that can booste the M1000 to 240 horse. Seems pretty high to me for a 2 stroke without any engine upgrades.

That m1000 wont last long with boost, they can be fun for awhile but they go boom quickly. They also have lots of little problems like carb boost, fuel mapping, clutching is a pain because they are a pain, etc, etc, etc.
Some people like supers but from my experience they arent the way to go. Like i said, they arent really dialed in yet and they have a monopoly on the supercharger market so they dont develop their product like the turbo's. Turbos dont generate that much heat, i have never overheated or had any problems with heat in any way for that matter. If anything the super's have problems with over heating their oil, lots of people have this problem if not all. They require you to cut up the front of the sled to get enough air on the oil resevoir, at least on the apex, the nytro could be different. And on top of that you have to run a special oil in the supercharger that is only available from mpi and if yo udont you void the warranty, kinda lame if you ask me. Anyway, keep your eye out for the mcxpress kit, it is going to rock that sled and i dont think your m buddies will stand a chance. Later.

Thanks for the info on turbo vs SG, HYFLYR. Also should I have much clutching issues with the stock Yamaha ones and the turbos or will I need an aftermarket? I was leaning towards a Stage 1 turbo.

You will need a primary setup like suptertips by supreme tool and machine or heavy hitters to harness all the new power. I went with the supertips because they are awesome in every way, easy to change weight and you can make a endless combination of setups. For the secondary you can get away with the stock setup or turn up the pressure on the spring, thats what i did in my apex. I went from 60degrees to 90 i believe and it was much better and all that is , is a twist of the spring, real simple.
Tookes, you live in ak you should ride with us next year, me and a couple other turbos usually go rocking so let me know when you get it all ready and we will hit it up. I plan on going out iin the next coulple of days and maybe this weekend down to turny to burn some gas Let me know if your interested.

Thanks for the info again.
Riding next year for sure. If you go this weekend at Turny, I'm interested, how do I get in contact with you?

Here was something posted on another site today, doesnt sound like a happy s/c customer if you ask me.
"I struggled with the same question last year, went SC'er and have had nothing but problems. The local dealer has been great, MPI support (haha) has been pathetic. Their product is substandard and fraught with deficiencies. The concept of SC'ers I still believe is better suited to my riding style, and that has kept me trying to make this thing work every day.
If I did it again, I'd investigate other manufacturers, They are limited but available, cause the MPI product sucks. They promise the moon,(so do some of their supporters) and deliver squat. I actually think they realize that their blower system is needy, but don't really care cause we keep buying the stuff. Now they're promising the moon and stars for the Nitro, and can't even satisfy the clients they've already sold to. Amazing. The fuel controller sadly needs a do-over and all the noise they're making is about the new one. I suggest fix the past client up before you move on and piss off a whole new group. There does seem to be a small group of satisfied SC'er guys, but I suspect they all live and ride pretty close to the MPI shop.
Can't beat the power when the boost is on. Just like stock, only better. "

I was leaning towards Boondocker or MC Express, Anchorage Dealer knows the R&D guys at Boondocker. Turbo Tim good timing, I wanted to get your input on turbos as well as the EZ Ryde suspension, is it worth the $$ for the EZ Ryde?

By the way, go mcxpress, they built the nytro motor anyway so they know it better than anyone.
