I'm thinking of getting a mpi turbo kit for my 2014 xtx.

I've got a few questions about it.
First off is there anything else I will need to install besides gauges?
Second, I was thinking of getting the evo flash to clean up the idle but I read that can be done to a certain degree with the pcv? Is there truth to that?

One more thing, I'll be doing a couple trips a year to New Brunswick that will be basically all trail riding for multi day trips, if I would be conservative on the throttle will it be much difference on mpg?

My original plan was to buy a header and evo flash and a can for my wife's sled, so there I'm getting close to half the cost of a turbo.

I think I will also going with the ulmer clutch kit.

Pcv with ulmers tune starts great. Pod 300 no need for other gauges. You will need the auto tune as well for pressure (boost) mapping. Mpi is the most challenging install, but it is all good quality with good customer support. I have not ran my sled much with just installed pcv, but wow I can tell a difference. Btw, ignition module with the above pieces Ulmer sets you up with timing advance and more hp. (Dyno tune mapping).

It depends which MPI you are talking about - trail kit at 4.5 or stage I with intercooler at 6.0 lbs

Well I and several others ran our 14 xtx and ltx's straight out of the box with MPI Stage I (pre-trail kit) and never had a (cold or Hot) start up or idle problem. I think the tuning you get with just the gems helped that a lot. You can do the flash but if it were me and only going 4.5 lbs boost on the trail kit I would wait to see how it acted. The Evo flash takes 15 and 16's back to the original 14 start up and idle from what I have read anyhow.

I would save the money on the flash until you decide to take it to stage 1 and add fuel pump upgrade, intercooler and 4th injector to do the flash to pull timing so you can run over 7 #'s of boost on pump gas on stock motor....... BECAUSE BELIEVE ME YOUT GONNA WANT IT LATER!!!!

I also recommend Ulmer's clutching over the rest but that is only after having Hauck's in mine and now collecting dust on the shelf because after 4 or 5 tries Hauck could not keep it off the rev limiter.

if your set on mpi thats fine. but there are many on here with the hurricane kit also. such as me. i did my instal in 4 hrs start to finish. has a PCV (mpi runs gems) everything was plug and play. comes set to run 6 lbs safely right out of the box (mpi trail is 4.5). any questions i called dave and he answered right away to help. hurricane has made this kit to have max hp at 8800 which eliminates the need for getting it reprogrammed (i looked into it also) also the hurricane kit is set for a good mpg at cruising speeds when trail riding and safe afr when WOT. his kit runs larger injectors to achieve this with the stock fuel pump. i have one year on this kit and couldn't be happier. this summer i added his intercooler, looking for some more safe ponies.

i bought a 2016 ltx le with the mpi trail turbo. it runs between 4.5 and 6 psi of boost depending on altitude. i like the mpi kit because it is a very clean install. if a person didnt know the story they would think it was a factory turbo.

i installed gauges, clutch kit and changed the gearing. if you need any help i can atleast tell you how i did it.

I wasn't really planning on getting a turbo but I found a good deal on a new mpi kit, I need to find out today if it's the 4.5 or 6 psi kit.
Thanks for the good info guys.

It's the base mpi trail kit. I can get it for 2500$ new in box.
I don't think I can go wrong really.
Comes with quite muffler and through the hood cold air.

I don't think I would have a problem installing I'm pretty good at this stuff, plus I have all you guys to help me out .

its a very nice kit with very awesome instruction set. I watched the dealer guy do some of the install and it took him almost 12 hours but it is literally meticulous. Take your time and you will be fine.

So at 4.5/5 psi is it safe to run with 91 octane.
I'm reading now on mpi site they recommend 50/50 race gas and 92 octane.

Yes, you are safe at 91 with trail setup. Above 6PSI, you need race gas.

When the original Stage 1 came out in 14 we were running them with 6#'s on 91 and trying to keep AFR at 10.6 at WOT.

Remember AFR has nothing to do with octane values. The problem there, at 6 #'s is you are at the limits of the stock fuel pump and injectors. And can go lean very quickly as the machine breaks in and hit 7#'s and it will not support that. If you are not running an electronic boost controller that can and will happen.

The higher the octane the slower the burn rate so it is like pulling timing running race fuel. Depending on the octane of the race gas you would not need 50/50 mix to achieve the 95 they are looking for. I can get 110 race gas here so 2 gal race to 8 gal 91 gives you 94.8 and if in a pinch 3 gal of 110 to 7 gal 87 gets you close. I wrote a simple spread sheet that does it for you and kept the mix ratios with me depending what I could get on the trail and carried 3 gallons of race fuel for blending. Once I started running 13#'s of boost even with 10:1 pistons in it I was running 50 (110)/50 (91).

And pay attention to the octane rating methods

Correction pcv does not have boost. But Ulmer sets settings to pressure. More boost, more fuel.

The PTI version of the PCV does adjust based on boost instead of just throttle position.

I'm still on the fence on this, I see it two ways, no matter how you want to add power you loose reliability to a certain degree.

With the evo flash your running more rpm , and the turbo you've got the boost.

I'm starting to lean away from the mpi because if the install, I know I wouldn't have a problem installing, but if I wanted to remove the kit for some reason it would not be easy.

Next in line would be hurricane.
