Fuel control does help. Leaner mixtures cause higher burn temps which increases the chances of detonation. That's why you run lower (richer)AFR's in turbo'ed engines. To control knock you either remove boost, retard timing or add fuel. The stock injectors loose duty cycle on long runs, thus the ability to safely control AFR's. Above six pounds of boost you also need to upgrade your fuel pump to further add fuel. You are right about compression and air density. However, detonation is the process of the fuel burning too fast or even too soon in the cycle. Fuel control won't help this problem. What am I missing?
I do know the reason I went with Hurricane is because of the added injectors and the ability to run 87 if need be. That and because once you meet and talk with Dave you are sold on his product and him. The simple, clean install was a plus.

I might opt for the quiet muffler if I keep it at 190hp.....240 is VERY tempting. The quiet muffler takes some hp's away from the 240 kit. This years turbo has a quiet exhaust for hurricane.. No more hindle exhaust for hurricane(you can still opt for it tho). I've compared myn to my dads mpi and the hurricane is the same sound level just deeper sounding I kinda like it better.

More fuel means cooler engine big time. I remember tuning for E85 which required almost 30% more fuel and it was tough to tune because engine kept going into warm up mapping. No fan running and still just had a hard time getting the motor warm. Its crazy how much the fuel affects cooling. That still sounds off to me. More fuel means more fire and heat. I get the lean out problem, but detonation is different.

What are you missing? A stock Viper engine at 6psi of boost with proper fueling on good 87 octane does not detonate. Old fuel, higher compression, more timing advance, more boost or higher AFR and your looking for trouble.

MPI was the only turbo dealer to get approved by Yamaha FWIW
sorry stingray i had to….
I could explain what the difference is between manufacture approved dealer installed turbo and joe blow turbo, but you don't really want an explanation you are just in this thread to try to convince those without a lot of turbo knowledge to buy your buddies brand.
It is seeming to be that from all parties. Like said lack of snow! In my opinion all the Turbos have some positives and negatives. Most important is the installer with enough knowledge to do it right.

How loud would the hurricane kit be with the loud muffler compared to a stock sled with a sandale?

it wasn't meant to diss MPI, just yamahas warranty and how they seem to have everyone convinced that it covers their "manufacture approved, dealer installed turbo" and the motor more so than any other installed turbo. (which it doesn't) as far as trying to convince everyone on here to buy a hurricane turbo, your right, if someone is asking for info about a "trail" turbo i will give my opinion. and i feel hurricane is the best on every aspect, from their performance, warranty, fit, finish, install, and reliability. about dave being my "friend" i barley know the guy. probably talked to him about 4 times on the phone and in a dozen emails. i am a firm believer that if someone provides a great product or service you should promote it. if i had problems with this kit and was unhappy you would hear about that too.
There you have it. Really thats why the forums are here. To help people. When someone has alot of work,$ or both in a mod is alot of pride in it as should be. Tough to hear other peoples views especially if a guy is happy. Just cant take it personal.

Sorry, wrong. If you have a turbo not MPI a dealer can deny any powertrain warranty on the spot. Will they? Not all dealers are the same and most want you back so they will work with you. But a dealer installed MPI does not automatically deny warranty where other turbos can. Cannondale can explain this more in detail if he would.
Hasn't come up. But it sounds like turbo related motor failures aren't covered for some guys here Stingray. I was under impression if dealer installed and MPI it was.
I will read the warranty. Noticed quite a few dealers got ahold of fire sale MPI turbo kits. What's up with that?
