Turbo questions

It's the base mpi trail kit. I can get it for 2500$ new in box.
I don't think I can go wrong really.
Comes with quite muffler and through the hood cold air.

I don't think I would have a problem installing I'm pretty good at this stuff, plus I have all you guys to help me out .

We have done 2 of the installs our self's and they are not that bad. I would be happy to help you with any questions should you decide to install your MPI yourself.

i believe the hurricane kit is 3499 with clutching. many benefits with daves kit, can run 87 octane, 6 lbs boost, easy install, the kit uses the original muffler mounting holes on frame, no mounts on the engine, great costumer service, he stands behind his product, and you retain all of the yamaha warranty as long as the turbo didn't cause the problem, which is the case with EVERYONE else's kit also. i was in the same debate as you when i got my viper. i rode 1800 miles completely stock because i was not sure what i wanted to do. i had an apex that had header, pipe, gems controller, clutch kit, overdrive sheves, and intake. glad i did a hurricane turbo on the viper. there is a lot of info on this site and problems with anything come here to get fixed with the knowledge of others. you will have a hard time finding anyone with trouble on the hurricane kits. the only thing i have seen is high intake temps. usually when i ride in above freezing temps. would like to see the intake farther away from the pipe, now i got an intercooler so that should be fixed. one other big thing for me was when i get 6000 miles on my sled i plan on buying a nice low mile used one an swapping the kit over.

MPI was the only turbo dealer to get approved by Yamaha FWIW

Hurricane is nice for pcV and simple to put and remove.... But damn hell LOUD...... and a normal riding day for me is aroud 450km nice sound but after 100km getting on the nerve! My opinion!
And its way to loud to ride here!! I want to keep my Trail ! ( over 32 oookm QUEBEC:sled1::))
The mpi kit is realy not perfect,no one is.... Less loud than stock, realy linear!

not to step on anyones toes but approved doesn't mean sh** if yamaha doesn't stand behind it. i know mpi will stand behind there product but yamaha doesn't warranty anything caused by the turbo. ANY turbo, mpi or not. that has been proven. so whats the difference if Joe Blow has an mpi, push, hurricane, blow, mcx, or ikea turbo?

This years turbo has a quiet exhaust for hurricane.. No more hindle exhaust for hurricane(you can still opt for it tho). I've compared myn to my dads mpi and the hurricane is the same sound level just deeper sounding I kinda like it better.

There's no way that it could be louder then mine with the sandale?

Hurricane is approved for 87 octane??? Something doesn't smell right. Adding boost means higher compression
Higher compression means possible detonation. Possible detonation means higher octane. Only way around this is to remove timing or lower engine compression. What are they doing to achieve this.

bigger injectors allow more fuel, in turn cooling the cylinder walls.i know dave has talked about this here. somewhere.

here you go. 87 if necessary
We decided to sped the money on using larger injectors with the hurricane 190hp kit because we found that the stock injectors ran out of duty cycle at 183hp. We wanted enough fuel control to be able to make the 192.7hp safely on long runs without the engine trending lean ever. Also,we run the engine at 10.9af at wot so that 87 octane fuel can be used if nessesary.saying that, we have octane boost that converts a tank of 87 to 92.

I guess he feels confident enough in the kit and his tune to make this claim. The kit utilizes oversized injectors and a PCV PTI fuel controller. I only run 91 octane, it's just a few pennies more but nice to know 87 octane is safe if thats all I can find.

That still sounds off to me. More fuel means more fire and heat. I get the lean out problem, but detonation is different.

More boost does not mean higher compression. More boost mean higher density of air, which raises cylinder pressure, not cylinder compression . Lower AFR numbers helps cool the intake charge keeping knock under control. That's why Hurricane uses larger injectors, to better control fuel at longer runs.

You are right about compression and air density. However, detonation is the process of the fuel burning too fast or even too soon in the cycle. Fuel control won't help this problem. What am I missing?
