Well the turbo shopping hasn't been going the best. I have almost given up on Ulmer Racing ever answering his phone or emails. I would really like to buy the used stage 2 kit he has for sale but trying to get him on the phone is impossible. I like the kit as it makes the sled look stock. I have checked into a MPI and MCX kits in Saskatchewan and it looks like the MPI is $3000 plus about another $750 for clutching, gauges and what not plus taxes comes to about $4200. Same stuff with MCX is about $5400 .
Another option I came across is a Trask Turbo with no fuel controller ( not sure where or what one can be used for a fuel controller). From some of the reading I have been doing over the last few days is that Trask made the rear mount turbo for Alpine but when I look on both websites they don't look the same. Alpine is a tunnel dump and Trask has a muffler plus a little different configeration.
Does anyone know if Alpine has changed their rear mount turbo design.
Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Trask Turbo.
Last option I have found is a Push Turbo for $2800.
Left over stock . How long it has been left over I don't know , is it one of the original kits that have not been updated , I could not get a hold of the company that has it for sale. I know the Yamaha dealer here had a few and could not get them to work. Now wither they gave it a good try or just had a bad couple of kits I don't know. They are more about MCX turbo kits then anything else. I have read that there are quite a few guys running the Push Turbo with good success . I have been trying to PM some of these guys to get some more insight but have had no luck yet.
I am not out to drain my pockets with the best of the best. I just want to get a little more juice for my nytro. Riding in the flatlands a 180 will be plenty. Chances of me making it to the mountains are slim at best.

what is wrong with alpine rear mounts design? Dean is one of the best in the business in my opinion...had a apex from him that ran flawless for 6 years until i sold it.....2 of my riding partners have nytros from him one front mount and one rear mount both run flawless day in and day out and i am just waiting on my 15 viper to come and his kit will be on it....

I have been looking at the older version that Alpine use to run for their rear mount turbo. It was built by Trask Turbo. Not sure if it is overkill with a 2860 turbo and running low boost. Not even sure how low the boost can be set. I think it was Dean that I talked to and he told me the kit ran OK but that was about all he really had to say. I can still get a fuel controller for $450 to run the turbo kit. I guess now they build their own in house kit for a rear mount . I would like to know what I would have to do to run a PCV fuel controller. Ulmer is the only one I have seen that sells PCV with a kit. That was when he was making his own kit.
Only other thing that worries me about the Trask kit is that they are not made anymore and if a part is needed it might be tough . Not that there is a whole lot of parts to the kit. Oil pump might be the hardest thing to find I guess if one ever craps out.

Deans kits are all made in house with a pure logic fuel controller....when you need parts they are only a greyhound ride away....boost can be set at 8psi on a low boost kit...ive seen his low boost kit in action and i must say i was impressed

I just bought some stuff from Allen, great guy. Can't speak for his turbo but everything I've experienced is top notch. He told "he was very busy right now" with farm work and I imagine will get more busy with sled season starting soon. You should email him your questions and be ready to answer when he calls you back. We played phone tag for about a week...good luck. You'll love the boost!

I have called Ulmer racing about 4 times and left messages plus several PM's and email's on this site and another site where he has the stuff for sale. I got one response from him on Aug. 13th saying that he seen my email and will get back to me in a day or 2. No response yet. I can imagine the calls he gets per day and I know he also does some farming. I just need to know if he still has the kit and wants to sell it or I can move onto finding something else.

Gave up on ever hearing back from Ulmer. Seen he has been on this site and others selling stuff but for some reason I can't get a reply from him. Really wanted his turbo kit but I can't wait for ever. Now it's down to 3 . MPI for $4125 plus taxes. I think that is clutching and gauges. Push turbo for $3050, supposed to have a gauge and some form of clutching and last is the Alpine/Trask turbo kit for $2900, no gauges but does come with a Garrett 2860 turbo , header and intercooler. I guess it can only be turned down to 8#'s of boost. I would need to find a waste gate actuator that is less to get 6#'s for my elevation or run 91 plus torco octane boost.
I have been going back and forth between the three and can't decide. Leaning towards Push Turbo but there seems to be very few running here in Canada so any help will have to be the internet or USA dealers that seem to have them working right. Seems like a lot of guys who run a different kit think they are junk but I can't find to much negative info from the guys who actually have the push turbo, they think they work just fine. Some squawk at the Chinese turbo but if it is built to certain specs it has to be good does it not. Not everything out of china is junk. 40 years ago we were saying the same thing about Japan stuff, now it is the stuff we look for . It's probably easier to figure out what is not made in China
Then I bounce towards the Alpine kit for the intercooler and bigger turbo but that is now a discontinued kit so parts are not available off the shelf. I am sure I could fix any thing that breaks metal wise. Guys who have them say they pull really hard, and the only issues I can find through the sled forums is the fuel controller. I think all three turbo kits I have chosen use the same type and brand of fuel controller.
Then there is the MPI kit. Seem to be quite a few around even though local dealer is not really pushing them compared to MCxpress. Lots of guys seem to like them who have them but if they never owned a different turbo kit how can they really judge it. If I went this route with MPI any issues I have would be phone calls or internet forums to get help. None are really local to me so any help needed will always be on the phone I guess.
I find it's really hard to get a honest opinion from any dealers I talked to.
Here is what the trask kit looks like.
