a buddy of mine is turboing his 2 stroke 600 its a trial and error project.he has got it to run at idle fine and probably up to half throttle.when you go past half throttle and the engine comes load it starts to sputter and dies unless you put the choke on then it clears up a bit.he doesn't know much about the carb side of things or what really drives the fuel pump he thinks it's a pulse from the crank that makes it pump fuel.pretty sure it's a fuel problem any tips ,info anything would be great.
running 5 lbs boost.............thanks

He is going to need an electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and will need to vent the carb bowls in to the air box in the proper area.
The size and shape of the air box is crucial.
I can supply these parts along with some advice.

As always, good information from Ted.
A little overview of what's going on with the carbs that might help your buddy understand what he has to accomplish.
The fuel circuits in the carbs are designed to work off of vacuum. When you add boost, not only are you removing the vacumm, you are actually applying pressure into the fuel circuits in the direction opposite that which the fuel wants to flow (this is why you're tying the float vents into the plenum).
An electric fuel pump and FPR will let you establish a base fuel pressure (say for this example it is 5lbs). As the motor starts building boost, you need to maintain that 5lbs above whatever your boost gauge is showing. If your buddy wants to run 5lbs of boost, he would need 10lbs of fuel pressure. Your fuel pressure regulator will have a line that goes to it from the plenum to increase pressure (1:1) as boost builds. These fuel delivery requirements are well beyond the capabilities of the stock fuel pump.
Trial and error gets pretty expensive, pretty quick on a boosted motor. I know Dave at Powderlites has added a turbo to SRX's before, he might have some advice to offer. I would really encourage you to take Ted up on his offer.

There's good reasons we paid what we did for our Turbos.. Someone else burned up their motor figuring it out..

I had a 700 MM with an areocharger 53 turbo on it. It was the fastest sled I ever had, it would beat 1200 PSI customs all the time. Problem was, lag. Lots of lag, but if you get past it, it can be a blast. Do what Ted says, he is right on, if you need any other help, PM me.
