U.P. Trail conditions

That sure isn't encouraging #$%&*

Just checked TWC, they say 3-5" of snow expected tonight in both Calumet and Lake Gogebic... still praying.

I'm also hoping that the Keweenaw gets some fresh stuff soon. We were based out of Calument last Tuesday-Saturday. As the week went on and the temps started rising the trails really got bad.

With the temps finally getting colder that's going to help, but without some new snow it's going to be tough going. If the snow that's forecasted the next few days does materialize, I'll be heading back up there next Wednesday.

Keep us posted on how your weekend riding goes. ;)!

Yesterday we rode from Paradise to GM and back. Tried to ride the trails but they are solid ice coming out of Paradise. Seasonal Roads and fire roads were in good shape. Trails around GM had a few inches of snow, but not much better. Paradise got 4-6 inches today of powder. It is not sticking on the trails and is masking the fact the trails are very icy. Saw a bad wreck where someone missed a turn. Rider was fine, sled was in pieces. I am calling it a year and am going to start summerizing the sleds. Only managed a pitiful 600 miles this year.

We had great riding conditions today actually. It was a little bit icy up by Calumet and a little low on snow in Houghton, but Twin Lakes had a ton! Put on about 150 miles today and saw A TON of Yamaha riders (maybe some TY'ers). It snowed up there all afternoon so trails had plenty of cover. We just got into Bergland, it doesn't look good down here. Does anyone know of any good logging roads in the area?

Thor452 and I put on 280 miles today, from Bruce crossing to Greenland to copper harbor to mass city and then back to bruce crossing. A tad thin over here by Bruce crossing, but north from greenland to copper harbor. Lots of news now and a great day. I'm over 1000 miles on the year now, so the year isn't a total loss. Thank god for the UP and their great hospitality here.

We went from chassell to Copper harbor on friday took a lot longer than expected. 2012 f800 cat blew up 5 miles into our trip sled only had 300 miles on it. From copper harbor to gay to lake linden and then back to chassell 175 miles. Most trails were really good the gay trail was bumpy but not terrible. Saturday we went to Baraga that was great. Then went to Lanse and up to Big Bay. That was the best trail of the year They must have 3-5 feet of snow of the trail it was all groomed and absolutely awesome! Made a loop back to Baraga and finally to Chassell Got 380 miles in two days. Yamahas were trouble free as usual and had the usual fixes on the 3 2012 cats we ride with :yam: Glad we went it was a blast!

My weekend ended terribly. This morning we were all set to leave, I turn my key, sure enough the engine light turns on and code 43 flashes on the screen. We lost a whole day of riding and when we got back to Duluth it fired up just fine with no errors.... sometimes I think these Yamahas are too smart :o|

Not to mention on our way back, someone snatched Bieniek's Craftsman tool kit out of the back of his pick up.

Our group is heading up to Curtis on Wednesday. Where are the best conditions from there? North and West looks better than South or East. What about off trail, how much powder is out there? Is off trail better than on trail?

I have been in newberry for a week and have put on 1000 miles on the north and south trails, conditions are what they are and we all should make the best of them. Our group has about 25 people in it and we all are havin a blast. Trails south are icy but have some snow on them still north and west are defitly better, pinestump area toward grand maris is very nice. Today I rode from newberry through paradise to hulbert then troutlake and back only bad was 2 miles into hulbert on road. Get out and ride but be safe.

Thanks for the recent updates guys. It sounds like the recent cold and a bit of new snow have improved the conditions a lot.

I just found a place to stay in Calumet, and will be heading up on Wednesday.

Hey man! I'm heading up 24 hours from now. I was there Jan 14th to the 21st. A trail to definitely hit and from what I was told by locals up there as a hidden gem of a trail is the eagles loop either going to or coming back from Copper Harbor! We rode that thing when we were up there and it was a blast!!!! Never been on it before the many times I've been up there. One to miss is trail 133 from Lac LaBelle to Gay. Everytime I've taken that trail it has been terrible! Besides, in most places it's only wide enough for 1 sled. Dangerous trail in my mind! Maybe I'll see ya up in da U.P. soon eh?
