upper gear bushing

You and NYTurbo need to put the Hurricane roller bearing in and give that a try. Make sure you have the chain nice and tight!

Sorry were not as intelligent as you. Maybe some day

I know what works for me and a good dozen others locally on Sidewinders and Thundercats with some sleds that have 13000 miles on them . Think I'll stick with that.

A friend's 50th anniversary SW popped out of gear the other day on a high speed rail bed run. He was by himself and had to reverse for a couple kilometers to get to the highway to get it trailered home.
Sled has approx. 5000 miles on it, well maintained and aggressively ridden but not beat on.
Top gear, bushing, and reverse gear all badly worn.

Not another one!! Seems to be so common now. Hope everyone is getting warranty work so Yamaha pays for this bullsh1t!

This gear you all are replacing is it a new part number *KC-E769A-11-00 which replaces part 8KC-E769A-10-00?

had a friends SRX do this same thing. Come to find out that the top gear was floating back and forth on the jack shaft because there were no shims behind it to push it as far toward the outside of the case as possible. Took a 2017 S.W. apart and it had the shims behind the top gear. So, we ordered all new components and the shims and then shimmed his top gear out as far as possible. Now it shifts back and forth a lot easier than it had before and has not jumped out of gear. When my 2014 Viper chain case let go I updated it to the 2017 shaft , case and internals including the shims and now mine also shift a lot better and seems to be a "tighter" drive. Part number for the shim is shown below from the 2017 S.W. Track Drive 2 schematic on Babbitts Online:

Dunno how there would be that much float unless somebody forgot to put the shim in there after reinstall. I could barely get my circlip back on with the shims in place. Very little room for movement.

His sled did not have the shim behind the gear from the factory and neither did mine. FACTORY assembly error!!!

Coming soon you will be able to get brass fork pads that wont crack and fall off if pops out of gear. This will get you home because some of you know when the plastic pads break you have no more forward movement and only will go in reverse.
Keep us posted as to when and from whom we can order them.

Tried to search for user "Dave385" in ebay and could not find him. Can you provide a link to his sales post for the brass shift fork pads please?

Opened up my chain case to find a lot of gold coloured filings, top gear is toast bad. 1 1/2 turns out and 16oz of oil since sled was new.

800 km service, no evident wear on gear and oil was clean with no gold coloured filings, checked tension at 2300km and it was at 2 turns out, adjusted back to 1 1/2 turns now at 5000 km tensioner was at 2 1/2 turns out, top gear add some sludge built up between outer edge and clip.

Anybody had bushing go to where there was quite a bit of filings in the case?

Once the bushing starts to wear, it can't really hold the oil in it to where it does any good for lubrication. So once they get to a certain point of wear, there's no stopping it, doesn't matter what oil is in it or how much you put in.

Properly sized bushing and tight and it carries the load all the way around the bushing with a boundary layer of oil. Once it gets sloppy its done, just can't carry the load evenly anymore.
