Need a new track for the family sled, a 2008 Venture Lite, to make it a bit better off trail. Seems like the only trail friendly options are the 1.352" Cobra or the 1.5" CrossOver. The sled is bit heavy to start with and usually carries wife + 1 or 2 kids + packing.
Dealer suggests the Cobra (probably because that's what he has in stock...). Do you think the 80 horsepower motor will pull a 144" CrossOver?
At first I thought of extending and run the 151" Crossover, but that might be pushing it too much...

Will change skis as well with main goal being better floatation and low steering effort for the wife. Any suggestions?

Anyone played with clutching and/or gearing on these sleds? The sled is never used above 50 mph. Any ideas of what can be done to improve acceleration, backshift and still keep rpm's @ 11.2'-11.8'?

Thanks for any input!

different skis is going to incerase steering effort but should still be farely lite. if u never go over 55 u mite want to play with the gearing. im not sure what the top speed is on these

Hi McM, I have a heavily modified Venture MP (no engine modifications, all chassis and track)which is almost identical to your Venture lite. I am running a 159x16x2 Camo Challenger with no trouble at all. I also have 10" wide Simmons Gen 2 skis which provide awsome flotation and very nice steering control on both trail and in powder. Don't be afraid of a bigger track, it really improves the sleds traction performance. If you search my posts you will see more of my comments and the work I did on the sled

I think so. These are the dimensions of the tracks:

MP: 16 X 144 X 1.25"
Lite: 15 x 144 x 1.25"

So basically, only the width is different. Check in your tunnel with your current track if there is any space. You would need only a bit more than 1/2" on each side for clearance. Unfortunately, I'm not at home so I can't tell you what the width of my tunnel or clearance is.

For skis, I have the stock MP skis (from the VK Pro) with skins. Not sure if the skins are from Yamaha since I bought the sled with them already installed (but I'm pretty sure they are). Awesome floatation with this setup. And if I should hit anything, only the skin gets sacrificed, unless it's a really bad hit.

The MP and the Lite are the same sled, just set up a bit differently. The tunnel and skid are the same and the track is different. The MP has a lower top gear in the chain case, clutch engagement speed is set a bit different as well.

Basically the are the same - Yes you can put a 16" track under a Lite.

I´m from sweden so i think that my Lite has the same gearing as the MP.
I´ve been thinking about putting on the simmons gen II skis to get better flotation in the front but just using skins is a cheaper idea. Just as good? I currently run the MP skis.
We have had lower than -17 C for a couple of weeks now and my machine is parked outside. Its really hard to start. sometimes it will and sometimes it won´t. How much is a heater in US/Canada?

There should be a section dedicated to the Venture Lite/MP. Admins, how about it? Even though we share some things with the Phazer, lots are Venture only, such as this thread.

Hey KnNil, I love the Simmons Gen2s. They are a big improvement on the MP. I ran 9" Yamaha skins on the stock skis the first year and they were OK, but not even close to the Simmons for performance. the double skegs of the Simmons make a huge difference. I have an in line heater but don't know the cost as it was dealer installed when I bought the sled.

Do you guys know any partsdealers in US/Canada that might have heaters and ship to Europe?
They are silly expensive in Sweden.

I think that we have much more "wet snow" than you guys so flotation is not really as bad here. Maybe 9" skins is enough!?

Check with Port Yamaha as they are one of the advertisers here. What you have to look out for is the cost of shipping, which is usually very expensive to Europe, and any customs, duties and/or taxes on import. Better to do your homework before ordering from overseas. Whatever you do, stay away from UPS as they charge crazy amounts for customs brokerage fees (this is on top of any duties or taxes owed). USPS would probably be the cheapest but would be the slowest. DHL is pretty good and their brokerage fees are reasonable.

I´ve ordered other stuff (not snowmobile gear) from US and still, with all taxes and shipping its cheaper then here.

thanx for the heads up anyhow

KnNil: I don't think you should need a heater for -17c temperature. Yamaha did the cold start upgrade on my MP and I have no trouble starting it down to -30c. I'm not sure if Yamaha is offering this upgrade in Sweden but it sure wouldn't hurt to ask them. Topper
