Wonder why they did it this way..must be a reason.
Glad I caught mine in time. I suppose once the pulley is correctly positioned, the driven could be shimmed to stay in place, with little freeplay...the gear reduction/clutch is not likely to shift around any, with the way the engine is bolted inside the frame.
Another thing...the front axle drive bearing's rubber seal is very easy to get a grease needle into to grease.

I don't have a pic, but do this.. remove your belt and driven pulley...yeah, the side panel too. Keep track of any shims. You will be looking at the splined end of the jackshaft. Now look at the bearing. You will most likely see two spacers against the bearing. Slide these off the shaft. Carefully look at the inner race of the ball bearing. There is a split collar between the jackshaft outside diameter and the inner bearing race inside diameter. This must be flush with the bearing race. If it isn't, tap it in until it is solid. The jackshaft will now be tight, if there is no wear. It is easy to check, and if it has slid out some, your shaft will be loose, but worse, the driven will be out of alignment causing vibration and loss of power.
Hope this helps.
