It takes a while to break in this motor, my wife's sled runs on average 8-10 degrees cooler than mine. Her LTX has about 1800 miles and my LTX SE is at about 1000 miles. We use the same oil, filters, coolant, duponts, 96 studs and 6" stud boy duallies. These temperatures are based on riding together in the same conditions and speeds. Neither sled has any power train modifications. Both sleds had fresh oil and filter changes this fall so two changes since new.

I put on 250 miles this weekend with temps in the 32F - 34F range all weekend. Sled ran great, even doing a long run on Saturday with a group of 11 sleds at a very moderate pace. Temp was constant at 165F.

Do you guys think 275 miles is to soon to take the sled in for it's first service? I know the manual says first service 500 miles. But I will be going on another big trip in a couple weeks and should be over that 500 mile mark. My dealer said they have been doing most of the first services at 675 miles, but that seems to long.

Its too early. Keep an eye on oil and watch for coolant leaks. Dont let it overheat. Ride it!

Two vipers, first oil and filter change on first viper was at 300 miles. Second viper 660 miles. If your going to go on a big trip I'd change it before. Lots of metal in first change and most comes out in under 200 miles.
Remember to change chain case oil while your at it and tell them you want 0W-40 full synthetic oil. Dealer might be trying to fill with 0W-30 semi synthetic cause most have a 50 gallon drum of last years 0W-30 oil in their service area.
