Viper rear skid front shock spacers

I just had hygear suspension re-valve and rebuild my rear shocks. I purchased the Barn of Parts SS shaft. Are the spacers left and right of the eye shock nessesary?

There is a huge amount of lateral play in there isn’t there? I’ve put a couple large O-rings on each side but still let it float a little bit
