Viper starting and mapping problems but not Nytro

Remember ALL Legal agreements are “the way it’s going to be.”

I did buy a Viper and am very glad I did.
I have 3 other 1049 3 cylinder Yamahas and if you listen closely the Viper doesn’t idle as smoothly But always starts fine. The % of sleds that have these issues is very low but should be ZERO I agree.
I wish mine had my Vectors or even better a Nytro ECU but still glad I have it.
My 2 cents

I like the chassis better then the nytro but if your going to use the engine from the nytro it better run like it. I dont care that it uses a cat ecu but why couldn't yamaha send over the software from the nytro ecu to make it run right? Yamaha designed the engine and how it runs so how can you give an engine to another manufacturer and say make it run great? They arent going to know how unless yamaha tells them the fuel maps and such. That just doesn't make one bit of sense to me.

Has anyone ever tried making adapter or soldering in the nytro ecu? Maybe we can hav a plug an play harness adapter made?

I would be willing to try if anyone has an nytro ecu a d harness to try.
I think you would sell alot of those and Barn of Parts would be out of Nytro ECU's in a day! Race team ran them but must have had to use Nytro Dash also since they all had that dash on them. That starts to get real expensive.

That ECU and plugs for it are very common so source of wiring could really be anything. Pretty sure my 800 Cat ECU would plug right in to a Nytro.

Somebody on the first Facebook page made a post about somebody developing a new plug and play ecu for the viper to eliminate these issues. The post was pretty vague for the most part and wouldn't say what company was making it. Haven't heard anythin since.

I would absolutely love the Nytro motor performance in my Viper.

Yes i forgot they use a cat speedo an gage assembly, hmmmmm..... that mite be the challenge.

I give up the gauge pack altogether if it started and ran better.

Exactly my thoughts. I know this chassis uses the cat gauge and all the sensors wiring etc . And cat would need to add to it to make everything work with there system. But there’s no reason Yamaha couldn’t have sent them the mapping file for this motor. It’s not like they didn’t have it on hand.
That being said fine if cat wanted to do there own mapping sure let them do it on the 7000 cat version but Yamaha should of been all over making this viper run like the nytro. That would of been the difference maker. I know there are legal agreements and contracts to take into account but Yamaha was asleep in the negotiation process in my opinion and dropped the ball.

There's one Viper out there that gave up the Cat gauge pod for reliability: https://ty4stroke.com/threads/viper-glider-build.141852/

Works great. The only problem using the Yamaha brake was adding a brake lever lock. I really like the Yamaha controls better than Cat's.

I've been spending a lot of time lately over on Arctic Chat researching the Bearcat 7000 XT. If I'm not mistaken that has the Yamaha 1049cc, 3 cylinder that you are all talking about. I can tell you that there is no where near the volume of complaints/problems over the last several years that I observe here on TY with the Vipers. Surely they have the same Cat ECUs and programming. The Bearcat is off my list if it is prone to all of the issues you guys have been reporting here.

There have been a number of comments here about the legal agreement between Cat and Yamaha and how it might be playing into Yamaha's response ... or lack of response. I'm surprised I haven't heard about a class action suit. Yamaha's product has not delivered the experience people have a right to expect.

The loyalty of Yamaha owners boggles my mind. Even knowing what had gone down with the Viper you all totally bought in for Sidewinders. I'm glad I'm so old, I don't have much in the game any more and no time to fight. Good luck boys, you deserve better.
