okay guys I just picked up at 2014 viper this fall. I came from a 2008 nytro and 2009 nytro. Why are there so many issues with starting and fuel mapping with the viper? My nytros always ran flawless without any issues and as smooth as could be. This viper idles up and down inconsistent, and will sometimes stall with quick flip of the throttle. Also will stall if you let off the key to quick when it first starts, you have to hold it for a bit longer or give it a little throttle when cranking. This is the same motor as the nytro why doesn’t it run the same and why so many issues with this compared to nytro.

Its the Arctic Cat in it. Cat ECU,Programming and Wiring. 4 reflashes and counting. That said GAS. See this every year. Fresh gas and ride the heck out of it and problems go away or become much less of a issue.okay guys I just picked up at 2014 viper this fall. I came from a 2008 nytro and 2009 nytro. Don’t understand why it’s not a Yamaha Ecu and programming... it is there motor. The nytro just ran so dam good at least in my experience with it. Ya I’m sure some of the issues I’m having is from bad or stale gas. Going to pump the tank out and put in some fresh fuel in it hoping that solves a lot of it. Doesn’t explain why Yamaha can’t fix the reflash issue that a lot of people seem to be having though.

I dont know why either. When Phazer had starting issues Yamaha replaced the ECU's. None of this Flash Bullxxxx! I am sure Yamaha could easily make a adapter or new harness and supply us all with a Mitsubishi ECU like Winders. Why they havent I wish I knew.Don’t understand why it’s not a Yamaha Ecu and programming... it is there motor. The nytro just ran so dam good at least in my experience with it. Yes or why didn’t they just supply cat with the nytro Ecu in 2014 wouldn’t that make more since then having cat program there motor.

because they don't give a darn . they are probably out of sledding after 2020 anyhow...…. it would cost a bunch of $$$$$$ and the only reason to do it would be to keep your customer base , which of course doesn't matter if your going out of business.

I hope thats not true. I think its more complicated due to the agreement they have with Cat. I believe the Viper Programming is Cats responsibility at least in the agreement. All I know for sure is my $ went to Yamaha.because they don't give a darn . they are probably out of sledding after 2020 anyhow...…. it would cost a bunch of $$$$$$ and the only reason to do it would be to keep your customer base , which of course doesn't matter if your going out of business.

If you consider the fact that Yamaha does make the best 4-stroke sleds it would not make sense to back out of an industry when you are leading. You really need to remember, what you read on this forum and others like it are only a small fraction of the users in the world and of that it would be a smaller number that actually have the issues some may refer to.
I hope its not true either......
(that's how rumors get started)

This is about the Viper only........
This was absolutely NOT Yamaha’s
best work when they plunked the 1049 into the procross.
I’m not going to list every issue that previous and current owners have gone through( there are many).
What you read or view on this site when it pertains to the viper is ABSOLUTELY HAPPENING.
There are no rumors or misleading info
Sorry.... it’s actually happening!!!!!
Forget about the vector, nytro, apex,
Yamaha didn’t show up on the VIPER.

I thought the rumor being talked about was that of Yamaha quitting sleds. The issues definitely are fact. Ugly facts. This is about the Viper only........

I am not disputing the fact that there are many issues with the SR-Viper and the fact that they are real. They are "ABSOLUTELY HAPPENING".This is about the Viper only........

My contention was to appose the implied fact (rumor);

Legal agreements have taken over common sense and for $ reasons in the Cat /Yamaha deal they agreed to give control
/ RESPONSIBILITY of the ECU to Cat and that’s just the way it is.
Not good for us and our motors but up to Cat to optimize and Yamaha must be protecting something they perceive as valuable.
It has nothing to do with Yamaha Caring they are just following the legal contracts.
One of the consequences of negotiated contracts
Don’t like it just have to love with it

I feel Yamaha has no say in this agreement. It seems to me that everything coming out of TRF is Arctic Cat controlled. This "agreement" sounds more like "this is how its going to be, you will give us your motors and that's it and we will use them how we see fit." There is absolutely zero reasons that the best 4 stroke motor ever made should run like crap when it ran flawlessly for 6-7 years before this so called "agreement." This is one of the reasons I never bought a viper. I thought about it many times. I almost bought a brand new one it 2016 and was going to have the factory MPI turbo installed but I'm glad I never did. When I buy a new sled I want to start it and go. I don't want to have to dick around with a crappy starting/running sled.Legal agreements have taken over common sense and for $ reasons in the Cat /Yamaha deal they agreed to give control

Based in your argument then I would say it's in cats best interest to fix the problem because they have plenty of 7000's out there with the same
Problems and they are not going anywhere. The agreement was for yamaha to use their motors in a cat sled. using cats ECU makes total sense. Otherwise they would have to retrofit a Yamaha ecu that would work with all of cats switches and gauges.
