Mine had a bad bobble also at WOT launch. I have not had a chance to see if it is still there since I got it totally re set up by Ulmer and the new clutching in it.

I'm just using stock secondary spring, I had a local machine shop machine down my stock helix to shift more and eliminate coil bind

So you are running a completly stock secondary except for the machining?

Yes as of now, may try some different helixs but so far the stock secondary with a machined helix works great

I've been using the 8dn belt the most lately as well, did multiple radar runs using the 8dn, 8jp and gates belt and the 8dn was the most consistent, wasn't always the fastest setup, but it worked the same every time

I have been using the 8JP right along--I put 3000 miles on one belt, no dust. I think I am going to continue to tune with it for now. I think I might try a softer secondary spring. My current secondary spring is mean--- 86-148lbs. I also just finished my gear change tonight. Hopefully get time to test this weekend.

Are you using the clutch kit from Hurricane?

Yes I am. But I am always leery of using a secondary spring that is so stiff. It seems that stiff secondary springs steal some clutch efficiency and rob a little top end. I could be wrong, I am NOWHERE near the tuner is Dave is, but I have had good success running a secondary spring that is just stiff enough to backshift but soft enough to upshift quickly. IE, running draggin flies in an Apex we found that going to secondary spring that was softer than stock would really load the engine, make the clutches upshift quickly and still back shift great for the trail--it was much faster with the softer spring. Are you using the clutch kit from Hurricane?

I agree that you should just have enough side pressure in the secondary to prevent belt slip, more than needed equals a loss of HP to the track. There's a good chance this clutch setup needs that secondary spring but nothing to lose by trying another. Please report back with your results of clutching and gearing change.

Finally got to test my Draggin Flies. After several set ups I ended up with..
21-41 gearing
8JP belt--no dust
DF 70 Flies
1 bolt in the tail ( this may change later )
2.2 grams in the heel--I use set screws found in the hardware store to get a lighter weight than what is in the kit.
Tip empty
Total weight---74.0 grams
Black HC primary spring
51-43 Helix
Red Dalton spring 6-1 twist.
Engagement @2800
Sled comes out @ 8700 and climbs. I have yet to run it out to top end but it has that familiar Draggin fly "grunt" when you hit the throttle . If the RPM's climb to far I my add 1 very small --.5 to 1.0 gram-- set screw to the tip. Clutch's are cool to the touch after long runs. No more overflash and no longer tagging the rev limiter. Good back shift. Fuel milage 14.2 to 16mpg.
I may tweak this further and will report back

Did some more adjusting. Went back to the purple secondary spring at 0-1 twist as the red was not giving me the throttle response I wanted. Took the 2.2 grams out of the heel and replaced it with 1.5 grams. Added .8 grams in the tip and added 1.0 grams in the tail. Total weight 76.0 grams. Installed orange EPI primary spring (150-380) Engagement @ 2800, very smooth. Good throttle response. I haven't run it out to top end yet but it pulls hard to 100mph. Still running the 8JP--I tried the 8 DN but it didn't feel like ran as well. My sled likes the 8JP--I have over 4k miles on 1 belt!! I would like to try a 53-43 helix but am not willing to order one at this time .

I have the hurricane stage 1 and have tried too many combinations to list. I thought I had it just right with super tip weights, orange Dalton primary, 46/40 helix with pink spring wrapped at 6-1 and 21/41 gears and 8jp belt. Have tried 8dn but gain 3 mpg on the top end with 8jp before running out of gear
The other day just for shits and giggles I decided to put my heavier Dalton weights in to load the engine more and beef up the springs in the primary and secondary to achieve proper rpm. Went with the Dalton weights that are 8 grams heavier then the super tip setup I was using, Red Dalton primary, 46/40 helix, white secondary wrapped at 6-2.
Back to back runs same day same track I was 4 mph faster on top end with the Dalton weights. This engine likes to be loaded. I have some more testing as far as trail characteristics but as far as a straight blast down the test strip it pulls much harder.

what dalton weights are you using,62 base or 73 base.i have those two sets.just like to know where to begin.I have the hurricane stage 1 and have tried too many combinations to list. They are the 73 base DTYA-1. I had to drill a little weight out of the them to get the rpm just right.
