Went for a 30 mile ride last night with 2 of my buddies who both ride skidoo. The one was an 04 rev 800. The other a 2012 xrs 800 etec. Stopped on the trail to take a leak and the two skidoo guys lined up and raced a couple times. About the skidoos: both sleds are clutched, trail ported, y pipe, and can. The xrs is geared different and has a 1 inch track with 192 studs. Conditions were nearly perfect. Solid hard packed trail and we raced 1000-1200 feet. The guy with the xrs just bought the sled a few days ago from one of his buddies who did all the work. The sled had been dynoed at 172 hp. I jokingly asked him if he was ready to get beat and needless to say he immediately accepted the offer. Lined up with him, as of last night I didn't have my quiet can on so I was racing with my totally stock viper with clutching. The flagger dropped his hand and the viper spun for maybe 2 feet and the. It was full power to the ground. I could see the headlight of the xrs behind me a little bit, thinking to myself he would be coming past at any time. Like stated, we ran close to 1200 feet and just before I let off I looked down and speedo read 102. The xrs never came past me! Got turned around and lined up again and of course the excuses started comin lol said he spun really bad and didn't to straight and this and that so I pointed out how he has a 1 inch track with more studs than me and that the sled should have hooked awesome on the conditions we were on. Anyways on the way back I felt bad because I could tell he was really hurt lol so we did a 30 mph roll on and I let him take off first and then I came on as soon as he took off. Ran about 800 feet and he pulled me maybe half a sled length so he felt better about that. Very fun night and I keep getting more and more pleased all the time. Over the weekend I went for a ride with a buddy who just got a used 2013 pro r 800 switchback and my dad came along with his 05 rx1 which has always been a real good speed sled if it had room to stretch it's legs. Well we got out on a lake and did a few dead stop runs. Same exact thing, viper came out in front of both sleds and I just tucked as low as I could and didn't look back thinking that at any time both sleds would be coming back past me. We ran 1/2 a mile and neither sled came past..did a few runs and same result every time. Then with me feeling bad I told the guys to just do a roll on from 20 mph. Well we all jumped at the same time and me and the rx1 were dead even the entire way, not even an inch difference in a 1/2 mile. The Polaris was able to pull about a sled length on us. Nobody wanted to switch sleds with me tho, I wanted to switch because I weigh 50-60 pounds heavier than the other two so I wanted to really get a good comparison by switching but it never happened. We got back to the trail and stopped to talk and both my buddy and old man were just shocked at how fast the viper is. I love the sled and the on/off trail performance it has as well as a heck of a drag racing machine. At this point on my sled, it is all stock with the exception of clutching. I do have extra wheels on the skid and am running the DuPont slides which with those two add ons the sled has gained big time in the speed area! Great upgrade for anyone that wants better performance out of their sled but still wants to say it's stock. I'm not saying it's faster than the 800 2 strokes because it's not and I have been beat by an 800 but for being down 25-30 hp and the extra weight, these sleds just perform awesome! Happy riding Viper owners!

 ;)!

I had a chance to outrun a few sleds this weekend.... :)

That's strange I ride with a guy on '14 xrs he's got a 1.75 track on it other than that he's stock, and when we line up we're about even to 30-40 mph and then he just catapults about 4-5 sleds on me and still slowly creeps away. I also raced him on the nytro when he had his 2012 etech and the nytro would hole shot him and stay there, but the nytro had a clutch kit and down geared 1 tooth on top.

I have a clutch kit on the viper. My long studs help a lot on the holeshot but I think one of the biggest things is the DuPont slides and extra wheels that let the sled roll so freely, an easy rolling chassis is free hp.

Easy rolling makes a huge difference!

Not saying a clutched Viper would beat a 800 xrs, but a 1.75 is a huge difference with take off. Now I had no problem with a 800 X at all!

True, but it also rubs off top speed I'd say anywhere between 5-10 miles.

There ether has to be something really wrong with that 175 hp doo or something really right with his 130 hp viper.

I know my viper is running very strong. It's actually in the 135-140 hp..but still, at 170 some hp, the doo clutching could have been off but it would have had to been off drastically to lose 30-40 hp and be in the same hp range as the viper. Raced both skidoo guys and beat them both from a dead stop. The 04 I beat from a roll on as well. Both guys rode the sled and were very impressed with the power

Just as important to look at torque numbers between the two. ;)!

Maybe instead of me trading my sled and loosing my a$$ on it, I should just do the same mods as you did. I mean seriously I've only got to 100 on real hard pack lake. If I can get to do a solid 90-95 on groomed trails I'd be happy, plus I got the suspension pretty close to where it should have been, just gotta get some good skis?

Ya like I said I invested a quite a bit of time and some money in getting the sled to roll very freely which is what this chassis desperately needs, especially with the stiff suspension. It's not a speed chassis, it's a hard trail riding chassis..but there is no reason u can't have both. I'm very pleased with the little bit of money I've invested in my sled!

Are you talking about 4th wheels in the rear of the sled or did you add more wheels?
Do you have pics if you added more?

Nothing I like better than seeing the all omnipotent Yellow people getting it handed to them. Did the hand grenade rotax not perform up to its so called perfect spec. Maybe their motors where past the 2500 mile limit? BRP=Burnt Rings and Pistons. :yam:

:sled1:
